Blue Jackets goalie Fredrik Norrena can only pace as the Ducks celebrate their go-ahead goal in the third period.

The Blue Jackets believe they had a game stolen from them Saturday night in St. Paul.
Last night, in front of the smallest NHL crowd -- 10,494 -- in the history of Nationwide Arena, they simply gave one away.
The Blue Jackets were in control for the first 48 minutes, leading 2-1.
But then the ice tilted, the Blue Jackets panicked, the puck rarely left the Blue Jackets' zone, and -- wouldn't you know it -- the Anaheim Ducks came back for a 3-2 victory.

The Blue Jackets' Michael Peca, left, is tripped by a Ducks player during the first period.

It was not the kind of tape-to-tape pass Fredrik Norrena intended to make.
But as the Blue Jackets goaltender cleared the puck out of his crease instead of freezing it with four minutes remaining and a tie score, it landed on the stick of a future Hall of Famer -- one with 554 career goals.
Make it 555 career goals.

In watching their games thus far.... they really seem to have a problem staying ahead. I'm not sure if it's an energy thing or just experience. They play very physical, which is a plus. I think Dorsett is about to become the fan favorite, I love the energy he brings. The line with Chimera, Vorchuck and Brassard is also a joy to watch. I'll be interested to see how Torres improves this team when he is able to play. It feels like they are a shooter away from being a little better. I don't know too much about hockey, but those are just some thoughts.

Is this team still a shooter short? Probably but the kids look promising.

Is this team still lacking one of it's better players (Torres)? Certainly.

Is Torres the difference between 3-6 and a .500 record? Probably not.

The steps are in the right direction but they aren't quite there yet. And you can't buy experience with younger players.

Rick Nash leads the Blue Jackets with five goals but hasn't generated much offense in the past few games.

Blue Jackets captain Rick Nash has been searching for a quality center to play on his line for about six years.
Not until yesterday, however, had the left winger bothered to look in the mirror. Nash has a new No. 1 center -- himself.
With the Blue Jackets last in the Western Conference and Nash scoreless in three games, coach Ken Hitchcock made a stunning lineup change.

The Blue Jackets are flying to Colorado this afternoon. The franchise goaltender is driving to Cleveland.
Pascal Leclaire will visit Cleveland Clinic to have his sprained right ankle examined by a specialist. Jackets management is comfortable with Leclaire's decision to seek a second opinion.
Leclaire said team doctors told him a magnetic resonance imaging revealed a sprained ankle.

Hitchcock won't commit to moving captain to center

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

DENVER -- Blue Jackets coach Ken Hitchcock wants to sleep one more night on the idea of playing captain Rick Nash at center.
What is becoming clear, however, is Hitchcock's motivation.
He wants Nash, a franchise winger, to skate harder and be more involved at both ends of the ice beginning tonight, when the Blue Jackets play at the Colorado Avalanche.

Goalie Fredrik Norrena is 0-3 despite playing well in long stretches.

Perry Elderbroom sleeps in a Columbus hotel room, but spends most of his waking hours inside Fredrik Norrena's head.
The Blue Jackets interim goaltending consultant is a welcome guest in both spaces.
The paths of the stocky goalie coach and the high-strung Finnish goalie have been intersecting since 1990 when Norrena attended a hockey clinic in Scandinavia. Their relationship helped Norrena earn an NHL paycheck starting in 2006 and Elderbroom one starting last Friday.
