THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

PHOENIX -- The biggest trip in Blue Jackets history got off to a flying start last night, thanks to the most beautiful goal you could ever imagine.
Rick Nash used an eye-popping flurry of head fakes, shoulder shimmies and puck dekes to weave his way through two Phoenix Coyotes defensemen before scoring the winning goal with 22 seconds to play.
It gave the Blue Jackets a 4-3 win in front of 11,114 in Jobing.com Arena, their fourth straight win, matching a season high.

Jackets notebook: Mixed review for third line

The Blue Jackets' Dan Fritsche, center, is checked by the Coyotes' Ed Jovanovski, left, as the Coyotes' Shane Doane skates past.

PHOENIX -- If the Blue Jackets' third line of Jason Chimera, Manny Malhotra and Dan Fritsche is to remain intact, coach Ken Hitchcock wants to start seeing less of the line on film.
"The energy line is only good when they're showing up on the 'chances for' tape," Hitchcock said. "When they start showing up on the 'chances against' tape, which is the issue we've had before, it doesn't do us any good as an energy line."

I will take full credit for giving you the motivation needed to get back to where you should be. Your Welcome.

Awesome goal and strong overall play all night last night. In fact, with the exception of the score being 3-3 before the goal that was probably the most dominating team performance the Jackets have had in a very long time if not ever. They controlled 90% of the game last night. A definite good start to a roadie.

Agree 100%. Jackets couldn't stay out of the penalty box in the 3rd period. That's the only reason the dramatics were needed at the end.

Jackets miss chances in frustrating loss

DALLAS -- Not long ago, the Blue Jackets would have been content to outplay the Dallas Stars and claim a moral victory.

No longer.
After carrying the puck for most of the game and running up a gaudy shot advantage, the Blue Jackets were broiling in the wake of a 3-1 loss. The 17,811 in American Airlines Center witnessed a robbery yesterday.
"Those are two points we lost that we should have had," Blue Jackets coach Ken Hitchcock said.

NEAL C. LAURON | Dispatch
In 23 games this season, Duvie Westcott has one goal, three assists and a minus-10 rating for the Jackets.

DALLAS -- Defenseman Duvie Westcott, once regarded as a top free-agent find, has possibly played his last game for the Blue Jackets.
"I guess the writing's been on the wall for a while now," Westcott said yesterday after he cleared waivers and was sent to minor-league Syracuse.
Westcott could play Tuesday for the Crunch. But it's expected that he'll soon be placed on re-entry waivers, meaning the other 29 NHL clubs could claim him at half his salary for the remaining years of his contract.

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

DENVER -- A day after cursing the hockey gods for a loss, the Blue Jackets had nobody but themselves to blame for this one.
Injuries to three star players have racked the Colorado Avalanche, but it still had enough moxie to beat the Blue Jackets 3-1 last night before 17,197 in the Pepsi Center.
"It was a very important game," Blue Jackets defenseman Rostislav Klesla said. "It could have gotten us in the eighth spot (in the Western Conference standings).

Blue Jackets defenseman Rostislav Klesla is helped off the ice after getting hit in the face by a puck against the Avalanche.

DENVER -- When the Blue Jackets sent Gilbert Brule to the minor leagues on New Year's Day, general manager Scott Howson described it as an eight-game assignment, after which Brule would be considered for a recall to Columbus.
Brule played his eighth game with Syracuse on Saturday.
"We're going to talk (today)," Howson said. "He has played very well. He has worked hard, scored some goals, created some (scoring) chances.

Big win tonight for the CBJ

Come from behind win and don't look now, but they are only 1 point out of the playoffs and the stretch between now and February 15th (the next Detroit game) is very manageable......
