Colorado Buffaloes (official thread)

This week is the Colorado State "rivalry", but then it's 2 weeks @Oregon and USC to see where they really stack up.
I think you'll find out how he stacks up after the portal re opens in December. Next year will tell the tale, he's doing way better with what he has than I was expecting out of the gates.

To everyone saying let's see how he handles a loss... this dude is a coach who has been there done that on every level, he's probably begging for a loss so you can twist that into a life lesson for the team and get even more out of the boys. This is not a team that's going to go undefeated not even close, but it's going to set the table for what is to come.

People like him who have had success at every single level and it had some of the best players and coaches around them - combined with the fact that he "gets it" and is teaching young men about life and apparently was doing that with his kids and the football organization he started.

Dude has my respect.

I'm just happy FSU passed on him. Buckeyes would never lose with a coach like this pushing the buttons.

Can he sustain it? Time will tell.

What a great story for sports... Prime, Peggy, all of it...

I wasn't necessarily pro or anti Prime, and while I'll admit that his start has been pretty spectacular, I have to also admit that I've gotten sick of the level of hype and wouldn't mind them dropping a few games. Anyone know if the Gumps and the Clemson crowd are calling for his hiring yet?
Some Gumps have.

Taters too delusional to realize that Dabo has fallen apart and think they’re still elite.

I think they're going to give Oregon all they can handle and possibly sneak out of there with a win. USC is going to be much tougher but if they can get their confidence up to a next level anything can happen. I certainly didn't expect this kind of turnaround and I know TCU is down from last year and Corn is Corn but those were two very impressive wins.

As evidenced by the UNC/Tez Walker decision, the NCAA has been much more strict with cracking down on 2nd-time transfers (JT Daniels notwithstanding). I don't think Prime is going anywhere until 2025 at the earliest because Travis Hunter cannot risk transferring again, nor can Prime's daughter, Shelomi, who is on the women's basketball team.

Secondarily, the 25-scholarship per year limit was instituted by the NCAA in 2011 in response to Houston Nutt flaunting SEC "over signing" practices by inking 37 players in Ole Miss' 2009 class. Some coaches argued for eliminating the 25 per year limit because the debut of the transfer portal in 2018 had the effect that some programs were losing more players than they could sign. After the COVID debacle the competition committee agreed to suspend the limit for 24 months, beginning with the 2021/22 academic year. The suspension of that rule goes away this school year and the signing limits will be reinforced.

What Deion has done at Colorado, or what Lincoln Riley did at USC last year, may not be duplicable if the NCAA competition committee does not vote to eliminate the per year limit permanently.

The NCAA needs to limit the number of transfers a team can take in a single season, to something like 15, so a team can’t use NIL and the portal to just buy a whole new roster.

Now it's personal.

That angle certainly exists. It's hard to tell where the act begins and ends. A lot of his words about CU in the offseason... strikes me as a guy that will blame the players.
He also hasn't been able to stay in 1 location for more than a few years and build something that lasts.
Not saying he can't, it's just an unknown.
In the games so far, be hasn't made adjustments on O or D. The D is straight up bad.
But CU will benefit going forward from playing in weak conferences with almost no competition. It wouldn't surprise me if he's in playoffs every year once this gets expanded. He shouldn't have a hard time sucking all the air out of the room once they're back in Leftover10.
His best opponents this year will never be on his regular schedule again.
While im sure a lot of bigger programs are looking at this... id argue he's almost better staying in Boulder.
He has national appeal. Easy conference. Access to Texas and California recruiting. He will be a legend just for making playoffs consistently. And they have cash in Denver metro.

Just thinking off the top of my head...
