Colorado Buffaloes (official thread)

It will be interesting if the Mangino rumor pans out.

Can't let a Mangino mention pass without posting this pic though.

Obie looks frightened... like the guy next to him just might eat him for breakfast. How often do you see a coach who's fatter than the mascot?Anyone seen Big Bird lately?

Colorado could do worse. He took Kansas (Kansas!) to a BCS game. The only problem might be that he'll probably double the state's obesity rates.

The list of all BCS schools with either zero or 1 losses in the 2007/08 football season:

Kansas
end of list

I would have liked to have seen Mangino on Bourbon street during that bowl week, for more than 1 reason.

They haven't just gotten worse, they've gotten much worse in his second year. The losses are one thing, but when you combine the losses with a precipitous decline in production like this.... you're gonna get fired.

Agreed. He and his entire coaching staff looked like deer in the headlights all season long. Most of their games were over before the first quarter ended. They don't have good players, but they underachieved with what they have. Underachieving = "you're fired".

Listened to the ESPN podcast with Maisel and Chris Fowler (born in Colorado and a CU grad, which I hadn't known). Both said the racism charge was bogus, and that the biggest problem was that Embree had never even been a coordinator in his coaching career. Embree was apparently only a position coach in the NFL before this gig, and Fowler and Maisel said that the coordination / administration that a head coach needs to be skilled at is not something you learn as a position coach.

Both also opined that Embree recruited well enough over the past 2 offseasons that the program could become at least middle-of-the-pack in the PAC-12 within 5 years. Fowler got pretty emotional; sounds like a fervent Colorado Buffs fan.

If what CU needs is a turnaround specialist, seems to me Glen Mason should be on their list.

It was swell when he'd talk about CU/NEB games back in the day. Always that Colorado bias, always a subtle or not-so-subtle dig at Nebraska. One of the multitude of reasons I stopped watching ESPN.
