Colleges Letting H.S. Teams Play Regular Season Games in Stadium

ORD_Buckeye

Wrong glass, Sir.
The juggalo President is tweeting and boasting about all the high school teams that he's letting play in Nippert this year. Is that allowed under NCAA rules? It seems like a college gaining undue influence with a high school program. That's why the NCAA banned the LHN from televising Texas high school games.

Thoughts?

I'm sure it's a mere coincidence that the teams invited to use the stadium are some of the most talent rich in SW Ohio.

I honestly don't consider it a thing at all. Might be the only time any talented teams play there all year.

Wouldn't care if it were Akron or OU. Care because it's that smarmy juggalo President and the "Ohio's BCS school" athletic department.

He tweeted today that he was going to write a book after he leaves juggalo state. I can just see the index.

Chapter One: How we couldn't get into the AAU because of Ohio State
Chapter Two: How we couldn't get a Comprehensive Cancer Center designation because of Ohio State
Chapter Three: MULTIPLE FLAGSHIPS and why it didn't happen because of Ohio State.
Chapter Four: How we couldn't get into a P5 conference because of Ohio State.

Fuck this guy.

Is it part of the frosted tips HS showcase by chance?

Not sure, but I thought those games were all at Ohio HS sites. Does that even still happen? I couldn't find anything beyond 2012 for the Spray Tan Classic. ESPN probably can't afford it anymore because of their LHN losses.

And I think this is fundamentally different than the Spray Tan Classic or hosting a high school playoff. In those cases (certainly the latter) the university really has no influence in which schools end up playing. Here it clearly appears to be the juggalos inviting certain talent-rich high schools in as a recruiting tool.

So, say this makes a shitload of money for the high school. You don't think that gives the juggalos an undue--even if unspoken--pressure on those coaches to push kids to UC? Oh, St-X, that 5* quarterback that we really wanted went to Notre Dame instead. Looks like Moeller will be playing at Nippert this Fall instead, adjust your budget accordingly.

NO. Come on man look at how many times you have made fun of UC. Do you really think this is going to get them the local 5* player with offers from all over the country? The only way the bearshats are going to dominate recruiting is if they go full ole miss.

I know that all the really good teams will be in Columbus when it really matters.

I'm not worried about the juggalos. Hell, let this work out for them, and we can just shake some change out of Gene Smith's couch cushions and throw a full weekend of games for the top 4 teams in the state every year that will dwarf anything the juggalos could do. The University of Cincinnati; once again bringing a knife to a bazooka fight.

You're right. I overstated that bit. It conceivably could help them have the high school coaches push the 3* guys to become juggalos over going to Minnesota or Kentucky though. Hell, let them steal a couple of 3* guys at the bottom of our list through this shit, and Urban will open the gates of hell. Recruiting is clearly a zero sum game to him.

Exactly! There's the ORD we know and love.

I think their problems will start when good recruits see bigger stadiums and better facilities at the major schools. Nipert will look like a high school stadium then.

Minnesota's new stadium is supposed to be very nice, especially in the athlete amenities.
Cris Carter thought highly of it...
This is the kind of thing we bash Purdue,Illinois, etc. for failing at (you're getting the money... use it on facilities at least)

Didn't we fight for Corn to stay in AAU? Don't think Ohio State is holding anyone back from joining. Better to look at scUM and Wisconsin for that... not that I disagree with those 2 on this matter (GTech good addition... Cinci? Need another gear...)
Similarly, getting into a P5 is Cinci's problem -- actually they were in a P5. But it imploded of its own accord. That they weren't picked up by ACC or BXII... well... they just weren't attractive enough I guess. Work on your resume.
The middle 2, Ohio State might actually have some connection to... I'm not plugged into Ohio's state politics. But of course the question has to be whether there's a population to support state funding for 2 institutions at that level. I know in Colorado, there isn't. CU gets the job done. CSU is a viable 2nd option. Mines helps round out the STEM.
