[sarcasm]Too bad that half the teams had to pull out because, you know, a 16-team playoff is just logistically unsupportable and there's no fan support whatsoever[/sarcasm]

You've never actually been to early round 1AA playoff games have you?

They really are played in mostly empty stadiums.

D1 FCS is a 20 team playoff.

Started as 4 teams in 1978
Expanded to 8 teams in '81
Expanded to 12 teams in '82
Expanded to 16 teams in '86
Expanded to 20 teams in 2010

10 conferences are now tied in with automatic bids.

Putting aside the huge difference in filling a HS sized I-AA stadium and the dollars involved with FBS football

YSU's home games were not...try again.
Perennial NC winners are not the teams that concern you when worrying about lackluster attendance.

OSU & Bama fill up for scrimmages. Boise doesn't consistently sell out their games, and it's a tough sell for the visiting team.

So are many of the bowl games, and those involve bigger football programs with broader fan bases than I-AA schools.

If the I-AA playoffs are such an abomination to you, feel free to ignore them and this thread. We have a thread for debating the prospects of a big school playoff, and as I've been told before this isn't it.

Personally, I enjoy these playoffs. I liked them more when YSU was in them but I'll still watch as I do each year.

Umm I actually attended several...yeah they were.

If you don't like what others have to say feel free to use the handy dandy 'ignore' feature the board provides as many have chosen to do to mitigate their exposure to your posts.

I didn't actually realize this was originally a thread dedicated strictly to the 1AA playoff games...for some reason I thought it was another 1A playoffs platform.

Oops.

Ignore my past off-topic antagonism and carry on.

Montana and Sam Houston both sold out their games last week and their match up tonight is a packed house as well. Apparently, these small school fans like playoff games. :wink2:

Guys like you injected that BS into it, so your comments are fair game for ridicule.

That's what I thought, the comments weren't off topic, but were off preference for you.

I think a playoff would be fun and well attended by most teams if hosted at home.

I also think there are huge tradeoffs, like letting in very mediocre teams, lowering the importance and suspense of the regular season and destroying the postseason for the other two dozen teams not invited to a playoff, many of which can't realistically make the playoffs very often, especially if their recruiting, donations and revenue start seeing their seasons end in November as 4, 5 loss teams.

There is no system without flaws, but at least a BCS or plus one requires teams to be good. A 20 team playoff requires teams to not be bad.

I like an 8 team playoff better than all other systems but it is a gateway drug.
