College Football Playoff (2015-16 Season)

WEDNESDAY SKULL SESSION: BOREN CRITIQUES MEDIA, SAMUEL TABBED FOR BREAKOUT 2016, PANTHERS FAITHFUL TO GINN AND MORE

PERCEPTION VS. REALITY. It's funny how many people give Michigan State zero shot against Alabama.

Maybe they're right. Maybe it will turn out like the 2011 Capital One Bowl. (Who among us doesn't remember that instant 49-7 classic?) But history repeats itself, and some in the media could be falling into the same traps as last year.

From todaysu.com:

“The media perception of things can distort reality,” said Ohio State center Jacoby Boren, reflecting on last season while in New York a week ago at the 58th National Football Foundation dinner. “I think the Big Ten has done a great job this past year and a half to two years of putting ourselves back into the talk as a great conference.

It’s a physical conference. That’s what it comes down to. It’s a great conference with great players, great teams and great coaches.”

[...]

“We were confident in what we were able to do,” he said. “The media works their perceptions. But as coaches and players, you look at the film and you analyze things off that. We were confident going into that game we would be able to win.”

What happens if Michigan State punches Alabama in the dipper and wins the whole damn thing? Will the B1G West be coronated as the new SEC West? It's as likely as Clay Travis retiring to his place of birth, a Nashville-area sewer.

I don't know why I'm complaining. Stupefied SEC hacks are the kind of stimulants I'd need to weather the sight of Connor Cook hoisting a College Football Playoff Trophy.

Booger McFarland, former Tampa Bay Buc and LSU alum, is still drinking the Kool Aid. He just declared Michigan State is "big and physical" but they don't have the athletes of Ole Miss and Tennessee - and the "speed", of course - and would finish middle of the pack in the SEC. Some people have asked why I'm rooting for Sparty after they beat OSU - shit like this, that's why.

I really hope Sparty doesn't crap the bed. Beat Bama, then lose the championship game.

Agreed and I think the B1G would remain well respected if that were the outcome, assuming they don't get housed in the final. As someone said on scout, we don't need Mikey D walking around Ohio with a NC ring.

Sparty has tons of athletes defensively and has more athleticism on the back end then in recent years. They aren't nearly as disciplined as the past few secondaries that headed off to the NFL. And frankly what sets the SEC apart from most B1G teams is their depth and athleticism along the DL, and MSU is terrific in that area. Calhoun is a monster, McDowell is a force and still growing into the position and Thomas has plenty of athleticism.

Booger McFarland works for the SEC Network and CBS radio. Most know that getting an unbiased view out of him is about as likely as getting one out of Gary Danielson.

Searched but didn't see an Orange Bowl thread for that game.

Today OU decided to give a masterclass on how not to deal with the media. Joe Mixon punched a girl in the face and broke some bones. OU suspended him for all of the 2014 season. OU also chose not to make Mixon available for ANY interviews including the 2015 season until today.

I am sure people's opinions on second changes, should he be on the team, and what would we do if we were Stoops will be all over the board. However, what is undeniably stupid is to have Mixon's first interview to be on the national stage. Predictably, all did not go well today. Also predictably, the mouth breathers over at LandThieves.com mostly can't figure out why the media wanted to talk to him about the incident.

How did anybody think the first ever interview by the player was going to be limited to football-only questions?

Darn it. You're making it harder to me to tepidly root for them.
