so if you're in a diner and you want a pepsi, when the waitress asks you what you want to drink does it go like this:

waitress: What'll it be, sugar?
you: I'll have a coke.
waitress: What kind?
you: Pepsi.

Exactly. When I first got down to GA, i went to a restaraunt and asked for a coke. Here, if the restaraunt serves pepsi, the waiter just says so. Down there, she said "what kind"? I was confused, so, I jokingly said "sprite", and she turned and got me a sprite. I didn't really figure out what had happened 'till I talked it over with some locals at work. Bass-ackwards south for you.

I honestly thought pop was more of a Great Lakes thing. Did it really get used so much in the Midwest and Northwest?

I grew up in the 70's, 80's, 90's, and it was "pop". Sometime around 2000-2005, it became "soda". I don't know how or why or when, but "pop" sounds funny to me now.
