Touche. Although, it says something one needs to go back nearly 80 years to find a good example.Ohio State hired Paul Brown from Massillon.
Wasn't Gus a HS coach under Houston Nutt, and went straight to Offensive Coordinator?
And then we had this thread.Nutt was on the hot seat in 2005 for conservative play calling and an unimaginative offense. He hired Malzahn to install a more creative, up-tempo, no-huddle offense -- and to secure the commitments of five blue-chip recruits Malzahn had at Springdale.
In 2006 they opened with USC and got their doors blown off. The up-tempo offense lead to them losing the TOP margin 2:1, and so they almost immediately scraped Malzahn's playbook and went back to their old offense, which wasn't necessarily a bad idea since they had Darren McFadden, Felix Jones, and Peyton Hillis all on the roster. As Malzahn lost control of the offense, there were rumors the defensive staff members wouldn't even refer to him by name, calling him "High School," and Malzahn at one point was alleged to have called Nutt "a huge dork."
Malzahn left after that one season to go work with Todd Graham at Tulsa.

Of course it's in Texas.
Art Briles’ name somehow still coming up for jobs, the latest being opening at FCS Lamar
“His name did float around at the meeting today,” Lamar booster club president James Patton confirmed to the Beaumont Enterprise. “It was acknowledged and talked about, but we didn’t specifically dwell on it. He does have a recognizable name that could bring some attention to the university.”
