Coaching changes: coaches hired and fired, comings and goings

Matt Lubick on fourth job in three months, this one at Washington

4536915.jpg

Well-traveled doesn’t remotely begin to describe this particular FBS assistant coach.

With Willie Taggart taking over in Eugene, Oregon offensive coordinator Matt Lubick left the Ducks in December to take over as the wide receivers coach at Ole Miss. Exactly 12 days later, Lubick left Oxford to become the offensive coordinator at Baylor.

Less than two months later, Lubick is on the move again, with Washington announcing the assistant has been added to the Huskies’ coaching staff. Lubick will coach wide receivers and will also carry the title of co-offensive coordinator.

Gary Andersen and Oregon State have "agreed to mutually part."

However...

Something is fishy here.

Means he sat in a meeting and admitted that it would be better if he left. The key being he didn't officially quit or agree to anything other than sucking as a coach. School lets out a memo saying he's leaving and now he's been officially fired and owed his buyout. Very sneaky. I wouldn't want to coach Oregon State either.

Might as well fire this up, as seats get hotter and hotter across the country.

Butch Jones- I read this morning there's a clause in his contract that if he misses a bowl game, the buyout of his contract is reduced considerably. So they're likely to wait until officially eliminated. They might be the worst team in the SEC right now, but with so many bowl games watering down the field, it's not unthinkable for a 5-7 team to get an invite. So, they may have to wait until the season plays out. Their next four are @UK (5-2), S. Miss (5-2), at Mizzou (2-5), and LSU (6-2) before a season ender against Vandy. It they were to lose the next four, that could make Ed Orgeron the executioner. They win one of those, he probably coaches out the season.

Bret Bielema- Sitting at 2-5 and with a very restless fanbase. Next two are winnable @Ole Miss and Coastal.Carolina. they finish up @LSU, Miss State and Mizzou. That's a manageable schedule, but their defense is trash, so it looks like 5-7 at best. That likely ends the Bielema-era in Fayetteville.

So, looking at what Iowa State has been doing this year...it's pretty logical that Urban go back to Ames once again to find his next OC, right?

Matt Campbell is from Ohio, coached in the state and has the Cyclones putting up good numbers. Very very impressive. Reportedly, he was targeted by Meyer previously and Wilson will back in a head coaching role after next year, I'm sure.

Hard to find someone willing to take a step down, though, so probably a dream.

The OC, Tom Manning, was a teammate of Campbell's at Mt. Union and is from Youngstown. That's the guy that should be on Urban's short list.

Not so sure that taking the OC position at Ohio State is much of a "step down" from being the HC at Iowa State. I would imagine that Kevin Wilson is now thinking that his taking the OC job wasn't much of a step down from his IU gig (yeah, different circumstances, but still...).

That could prove disastrous for Bret. If he loses his job, he may completely let himself go.
