Cleveland Indians Thread of Malaise (2014 Season)

That was a tough one to suffer through yesterday. Being at the game it was almost comical. I mean we did everything possible to lose.

Save Masty, the starters all only pitched on game so I won't freak out, but damn if there isn't reason to start worrying that SP is going to kill us this year I don't know what is.

SP and the lack of a big power hitter so far really bothers me. We need a big hitting guy, Santana is not a typical 4 hitter. Why we failed to address that again this off-season bothers me. Not to mention how long are we going to be able to comeback and win games on a 162 game season? I really hope this SP is not a trend because I really do have high expectations for them this year.

SP is my number one concern with this team. Masty was strong last year, but looking at his career, he seems to be one of those "every other year" kinda guys. Kluber and McAllister were solid last year, but neither are proven commodities. Salazar is loaded with potential, but he's young, so you never know. Carrasco's a turd. He just is. I'm convinced if he has a future in MLB, it's out of the bullpen.

What they really need is for Masty to show up all year, and Salazar to be the real deal. Would be nice if Bauer could approach all the hype, but I've never cared for him. Seems like one of those prospects with a million dollar arm that'll never be able to harness it. Then hopefully you get McAllister and/or Kluber to cobble together a reasonable year. Seems like that might be asking a lot. In my mind coming into the season, I fully expected a regression from last year. And unless they get some breaks, I still think .500 is the absolute ceiling for this team. Then again, I predicted they'd lose 90 last year, so what the hell do I know? Maybe Tito can work his magic again.

This is a 65 win team unless the SP pitching gets a lot better quickly.

65? Nah we haven't won so few games

To me there is something about this years team, they are confident as they proved last year they can be successful, but at the same time they are hungry because of the sour taste of their quick exit at home to TB.

Yeah I am not fond of Carrasco at all. As for Masterson, you'd think he'd have a good year because it's a contract year. As bad as he looked yesterday we do need to remember he pitched great on the road against a playoff team last year in his first start, so it could be a matter of finding yourself/rhythm so early on. Salazar to be is the variable here. If he can tap into his potential we can compete for the playoffs again, if he struggles with command and makes too many mistake pitches on a consistent basis, we are looking at a 70 to low 80 win team and more disappointment.

Our attendance is an absolute joke. Come on people, this team made the playoffs last year and yet we can't at least get 18,000 a game at this time of year? I get it's a weekday game and it's only April, but jesus christ it's embarrassing. Our shit basketball team averages more than this a game.
