Actually it's only 7 as San Francisco won it in 2012 and 2014.

I used to think that was a good argument. But outside of Kansas City (and they immediately lost it) which of those winners had to dump salary?

San Francisco?
St. Louis?
Chicago Cubs?
Houston Astros?
Boston? (LOL)

Small market teams are at a decided disadvantage and always will be until something is done. The other leagues you quoted have some sort of cap.

The White Sox pitching is still pretty shitty, even if they added Harper and Machado it's still an uphill climb for them. Option #2 is the most likely. It's gonna be a slow, painful, mediocre fall back into 2009-2012 type garbage.

That's the old "make sure we don't run out of catchers" trade. (Also known as the, "what the fuck do we do if Eric Haase bombs" trade)

Seems like he basically knows what he's doing back there, and I'm sure if he wasn't at least half competent, Micky Callaway would have mentioned it. Sure, he can't hit, but whose #3 can.

4. Adam Jones (33, .266/.307/.429, 1.2 WAR) -- He shouldn't be viewed as a center fielder anymore, and his power numbers dropped off last year. He might have to accept a role as a part-time player.

Best fits: Indians, Rockies, Orioles

He'll be 34 in August and isn't near the player he once was offensively or defensively, but if he can be had at a reasonable price, he could be a useful piece. That said, he made $17M last year, so how much of a paycut is he willing to take?

Wow. It's a tough valuation... To me it's a question of is he looking for one last contract or is he thinking I'm 33 and want to play to 37-38 and is he really ready to prove that. Mostly I'm just curious if he's looking for a one year prove he's not dead kind of deal or is he trying to suck out a couple years for like 16-18 million, but if it's one year at 8 million he's not interested. I'll take a one year flyer on most guys off one down year... But that's about it.

Given how soft the FA market has been, I can't imagine a 33 year old with declining production getting much of a deal unless he hangs back and waits until teams get desperate. If I were to hazard a guess, he'll get a one year prove it deal somewhere, which could put the bums in play.
