I agree, this is a bridge year. Stomping bad teams is absolutely progress. They have some guys under contract. If Masty or Ubaldo can pull out a one-gamer, I'm not sure how the best-of-5 lines up in terms of days in between...whether we would have to go 1-4/1 or if we could go 1-3/1-2, but either way Boston has owned us all year and pretty much still will. But if they get a taste, it's something to build on.all you can do is get in and hope that masterson and ubaldo can carry you to some wins and you can cobble together enough runs to make things interesting. hope a few guys get hot for a few weeks and see how it ends up. regardless, if cleveland wants to be serious about contending beyond this year, it will be good for these guys to get some kind of playoff experience.

in a 5 gamer, i could see them going masty, ubaldo, kazmir, kluber with the latter two having a short leash. i think you can use salazar as a long man if you have to short hook somebody since they are limiting his pitch count and innings anyway. i have zero reason to think cleveland has any real aspirations of making a deep postseason run, outside of the fact that they are pretty bipolar offensively, and you might get lucky and the good side shows up for a while.
Because his last seven starts have yielded this, innings-wise:Case could be made that Salazar has been the 2nd best starter the past couple months. Don't see how/why they would turn him into long reliever. Better case could be made to put Masterson in that role since he's not started a game in nearly a month.
Because his last seven starts have yielded this, innings-wise:
4
5.1
4
6
4
3.2
6
That's 33 innings in 7 starts. They have him on a tight pitch count, and you cannot stretch your BP in a five game series covering for his innings when every game counts. He'd be much better utilized as a long reliever because he could, presumably, come in and give you 2-3 innings after the starter if needed, and give the rest of the guys some rest.
I have doubts at 4-2, I don't think that's a gimmie...Rangers get to annihilate the Astros for 2 more (15-2 against them) before closing with the Angels at home, a team they are 11-4 against so far...Obviously if we go 5-1 the worst we can do is a tie...but I can see the Rangers closing at 5-1 as well. The Rays have winning records against NYY and TOR, but they are all on the road, so that's hard to say. It's up in the air right now. Indians just need to win, win, win.Alright Tribe, all we need is a good run these last 6 games. 4-2 and no doubt we're in. 3-3, could be a toss up, 2-4 done.
Well, in that case they have to decide if a rookie with < dozen career starts gives them a better shot than Masty/Ubald-O/Kaz/Kluber.Salazar is off any innings or pitch limit and they've stated he will not come out of the bullpen since he hasn't done that before and don't want to throw off his routine after building up arm strength, so he's either a starter in the playoffs or he'll be off the roster.

The choke is on, down 2-1 to the hapless white sox in the 7th
