Cleveland Indians (2011 Season)

A little preview of June's draft by IPI:

8. Cleveland - Francisco Lindor, SS, Monverde Academy
There are a lot of ways the Indians could go, but I am betting they will pay the money to sign Lindor. Lindor reminds me of a better version of Wolters. He is an excellent defender and switch-hiter who will definately stay at shortstop. He is smaller, so there are the same questions that there are when it comes to Wolters, but Lindor shows an excellent eye at the plate. He has also shown good power, but he doesn't project as a power guy. He is the top shortstop in this class, and seems a top ten lock in spite of his small stature.

Going middle infield is a little surprising to me considering AsCab is still young and they already have Phelps and Kipnis as 2B prospects. But then agan, this isn't the NFL, you don't typically draft for need in baseball.

I'd expect them to swap Grady and OCab there if Grady's not staying in the leadoff spot.

I could see that also. I left OCab in the #6 spot to break up the lefties (Haf/Sizemore).

I'm interested to see how the expected Gomez callup impacts the minor league rotations. My hope is that Scott Barnes moves up to Columbus. I don't think they'll bump Pomeranz up to Akron yet but it is possible. Another good option for the Akron spot would be TJ McFarland or perhaps they'll just move Eric Berger back into the rotation.

I have a feeling they're fast tracking Pomeranz to be in the rotation at some time next season...maybe earlier if he keeps pitching like he has so far. Another good start or two and I'd bet he's in Akron. He has been absolutely dominant.

It would take a few years for a HS kid to reach the majors and who knows what the team will look like by then. Yes, they have Phelps/Kipnis but SS is still a need in the system. They took Wolters last year too but a lot of people don't think he'll be able to stick at SS.

Smooth hits his 2nd homer to right center to give the tribe a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 2nd.

It finally looked like Carlos was comfortable up there working the count to 3-2 after being down 1-2. He wasn't chasing anything. He wasn't ahead of himself, stayed behind the ball and gave it a ride.
