beckham had a terrible year last year for the white sox but if they are truly done with him i would take a chance on him now...hes only 24 and has alot of upside, and he can play 2nd...before last year he was being compared to a chase utley type...i like dan uggla also but i doubt we make a play for him
I sincerely doubt the chisox are ready to give up on Beckham already. It's even more of a reach to think they'd trade him to a divisional rival. Uggla was just dealt to ATL, but that was even more absurd in the first place.

going to be another long season

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Paul Dolan says he understands the frustration of Indians fans following consecutive seasons of 97 and 93 losses.
http://www.facebook.com/sharer.php?... spend' on free agents | cleveland.com&src=spThe team's CEO said that the best way for the Indians to become contenders again is for their young players to develop and for injured players to heal and stay healthy. Forget about a big free-agent signing bolstering the roster.

"It's not the right time to spend. No question about that," said Dolan on Wednesday at the general managers/owners meetings. "It's not the right time to spend in the cycle of this franchise.

South Korea defeated Taiwan 9-3 Friday in the final of the Asian Games.

Barring something unforeseen, Shin-Soo Choo is now exempt from Korea's required two-year military service. He went 6-for-10 with three home runs and nine RBI over the first four games of the tournament and will be back in the states as a highly valuable fantasy outfielder next season. Choo, 28, batted .300/.401/.484 with 22 home runs, 90 RBI and 22 stolen bases over 144 games for the Tribe in 2010. He's only getting better.

I just hope that they don't overspend signing all of these quality free agents:(

jason friggin werth just got 7 years $125 million from the Nationals. he's 32 right now. jeter is getting $17 million per. This is the state of FA in baseball. it's slowly killing the game. be happy cleveland isn't considering dipping into the FA market.

I know what you mean because these contracts are going to bring down all professional sports but the quality of guys the Indian sign... I can even understand why they signed them.

they sign guys like nix, pavano and kearnes because there is no downside. if they suck, they get waived. if they perform well, they get dealt at the deadline and cleveland acquires more farm assets. for a team like cleveland, signing such players and hoping for lightening in a bottle is the only way they can realistically compete.

You've perfectly described the Indian's current approach! Casey Blake is their poster boy for this.

But I disagree that this is the "only way" the Tribe can compete. Improving on their amature player drafts and doing a better job of developing their minor league players, such as how the Twins and Rays have done, is also a way to put a competitive team on the field without spending millions on 32 year old free agents.
