Cleveland Indians (2011 Season)

Pronk looks comfortable at the plate, nice to see. Unfortunately, the free MLB league pass / ticket or whatever it's called runs out on the 10th, so I believe that will be the last time I watch the Tribe all year.

Tomlin...nice. That's not an easy team to do that against. I like what I've seen from the pitching for the most part after the first 2 clusterfuck starts and the long dong relief efforts. Perez was a bit shaky, but he got it done tonight, and Sipp looks good so far.

Hopefully Sipp finds some consistency...he has electric stuff, but he was wildly inconsistent last year. Perez has overpowering stuff, but I get the feeling he's gonna be one of those closers that has us on the edge of our seats until he reigns his stuff in. Either way, he looks like he'll be more effective than either Borowski or Wood ever were.

Pronk has looked good thus far, hopefully that keeps up. Brantley has been good leading off, so that's encouraging. I don't know how long Hannahan can keep it up, but it'll be really nice if he can at least give some offense and decent D at 3B. If they don't have to rush Chisenhall, that'll only be better for the future. I don't know if LaPorta's ever going to come around, but if he doesn't maybe we see more Santana at 1B. If he doesn't wake up by May, I'm pulling out the "LaBusta" moniker for good. My doubts of him are growing by the day...

I never really had high hopes for LaBusta....always felt he was overrated

but my god, he is on level with the Marte Partay
Well, it goes to show you, people sometimes put too much into prospect rankings. IIRC, LaPorta was a top-15 or so prospect at one time...

The thing with LaBusta is that his bat is his ONLY supposed quality attribute

he sucks at defense (he was defensive subbed for Marte last year frequently, which says it all)

isn't going to steal you any bases.....

without the "big bat" you get nothing....which is what the Indian's have got from him thus far

You can watch live MLB games via your PS3. Or at least I downloaded the thing that you can. Seems like it was free, just didn't complete the registration yet.

If they can stay somewhat competitive and if the offense can keep producing, I think fans will come once the weather betters. I mean it's been nothing but cold windy and rainy here this week so I didn't expect much.

Once Sizemore comes back, and if Pronk keeps this up and Santana blows up like it appears he will this could be an exciting team to watch. I plan on taking in quite a few games once the weather warms up.

I didn't even read the article. I skipped right down to the comments section where the meltdown took place.

Solid reading.

Baseball's financial structure is ridiculous...

Not because teams like the Yankees and Red Sox can buy championships. I appreciate the fact that their owners want a consistently good product and are willing to spend for it. But because the system allows owners of the Pirates and Indians to make $30 million while fielding awful teams based on revenue sharing and luxury tax.

There is really no incentive for the Dolan family or the Pirates owner to spend when they are guaranteed profits doing the same bargain hunting crap year after year....

Exactly...unfortunately short of relegation like the English Premier League (and I'd actually laugh if they did that) there is nothing they can do about it.

Is it that expensive to invest in a dynamic farm system though?
You'll never see me complaining about a team not wanting to spend 120 million on CC Sabathia's fat ass - but can't appropriate investments be made in your minor league and scouting teams so that there are a steady stream of good, young talent?

I can't abide or understand a team that penny pinches on a minor league system. It almost always results in failure*

*It should be noted that Cleveland almost always has one of the better minor league systems in baseball, I was speaking in terms of overall management decisions.
