Cleveland Guardians (2022 AL Central Champs)

Blah, good year. Baseball is so fickle. Maybe someday in my lifetime it all aligns
*Spoiler

It won't.

They had their one chance in 2016. Up 3-1 against the other "cursed" franchise and blew it. It's never happening. I'm not even disappointed anymore. Just...resigned. The Tribe used to be the pro team I was most invested in. I've barely paid attention the last three seasons. Don't see that changing.

This franchise just has a problem with closing out series

2017 ALDS vs NYY (2-0 lead)
2016 World Series (3-1 lead)
2007 ALCS vs Boston (3-1 lead)
2001 ALDS vs Seattle (2-1 lead)
1999 ALDS vs Boston (2-0 lead)

Add this one to the collection.

Looking forward to the 2023 season. Bright future for this team!

Yeah they need one guy who is scary in the middle of the line up and the kids to keep progressing. I mean they tried to roll with Will Brennan, not enough from Gimenez, etc. I could go on, but the position guys are behind the pitchers... Won a series hopefully they can grow.

Time to bring back the goats?

Let's fucking do it.

Thinking about this more, I think they need to just continue to get better. Ramirez is under contract for a while. Clase too, and I generally don't think they need to do a lot except get older. Do you move Rosario knowing you have Arias? Obviously those kinds of organizational strength questions are something to think about.

Ideally, they can get someone to replace Reyes as a "if you make a mistake this ball will be in the lake" kind of presence. I didn't look at the aging DH FA market lately but last I checked its pretty ho hum... maybe there's a FA 2023 type guy out there who had a not so great year whose team is ready to move on from them to dump salary (and maybe pay some of it!) in return for, well, having dumped the salary and a farmhand with limited upside in a position they're short organizationally.

Ideally they could play either a corner OF or 1B and DH. I mean, I'd prefer a Mike Napoli type, but I'd be open to just another professional hitter to move the kids along and if it doesn't pan out to at least hold the door open for the kids while they develop.

The change of names screwed 'em. Dang Betcha by golly wow
Guardians??? Laffing here
Maybe the Cleveland Lovelace's, they wouldn't choke on the big ones.

The early 50s Reds were so bad I rooted for the Indians even though you couldn't get anything more than their box score in the Dayton Journal Herald. Al Rosen, Bob Lemon, Mike Garcia, Bob Feller, Luke Easter, Larry Doby, Bobby Avilla, and then Willy Mays makes that over-the-shoulder catch in the deep recesses of the Polo Grounds, Dusty Rhodes is out, and the World Series dream takes the first train out of Ohio.
