High School Cleveland Glenville Tarblooders

I just now watched the end of this game. It was accidentally recorded instead of College Football Live on my DVR.

Maybe they cut short this particular broadcast but I didn't notice a camera angle where it was obvious that the catch was a touchdown. In the view I saw, his knee hit first but it looked to me like he trapped the ball on the ground a bit before catching it. At a minimum, there's no way a ref should be expected to get that call right.

The first supposed running touchdown didn't even look close to me. It was fairly obvious that he never crossed the line of scrimmage.

The third one looked like a touchdown but it was a terrible camera angle. I've seen that angle before in college football games where I was certain it was a touchdown but when a replay was shown from straight down the line, he (in the college game) never actually got in.

To me, at least two of those three supposed missed touchdown calls down the stretch weren't terrible calls at all.

RivalsHigh.com - Weekend Watch: Hometown hope starts now

WHEN: Friday 9/17, 7 p.m.
LAST MEETING: First-ever meeting
STANDINGS: Glenville (3-0), No. 2 in Ohio
Anderson (3-0), No. 19 in Ohio

WHY IT'S BIG: Anderson is looking for respect. The team checks in at No. 9 in the Cincinnati area in just its second season in Division I. Glenville, No. 2 in the state, is hoping for another test before the conference schedule cakewalk begins. Anderson was able to crawl and scratch into the national rankings last season. A win over Glenville in Week 4 would catapult its stock early in the season.

BEST MATCHUP: Glenville's prestige versus Anderson's grinders. Not sure there will be a bigger game between two seemingly mismatched teams this week. Glenville comes in with nearly a dozen Division I prospects. Anderson will get off the bus with zero. Anderson is one of the hardest-working teams in the Cincinnati area and it will be out to prove there is more to the 275 loop than just the GCL.

GLENVILLE WINS IF: It does what it usually does and overpowers opponents. The Tarblooders have played their most difficult regular season schedule to date with four legitimate opponents before its league games. The team looks like one focused on finishing the deal this season and winning its first Ohio Division I title. If it struggles against Anderson and then slips into complacency during the regular season, St. Edward or Solon could sneak up on them in the playoffs. This is a mentality and focus game for Glenville.

ANDERSON WINS IF: It can frustrate Glenville as well as outcoach the Tarblooders. The Redskins will look across the field at a talent-superior team but one that often makes mental mistakes that can be costly. If Anderson can keep the game slow and low scoring it could benefit. Getting into a track meet with the Tarblooders is not the way to be successful.

PREDICTION: While it is often easy to root for the underdog, in this case that would be a futile effort. Glenville, especially amid the Dwyer controversy, is increasingly focused and out to prove the team is among the 10 best nationally. This game, like the next six for Glenville, should be an easy Tarblooder win. Glenville 36, Anderson 16

The Tarblooders, ranked No. 1 in the area and Division I state poll, No. 4 in the ESPN and 11th in the USA Today national polls, totaled 337 yards in offense in the Senate Athletic League romp. Quarterback Cardale Jones completed 6 of 9 passes for 112 yards and touchdown strikes to Shane Wynn and Evonte Dunn. V'Angelo Bentley carried the ball just two times, but they resulted in touchdown runs of 33 and 28 yards.

Sportstime Ohio is going to show the Glenville-Lakewood St. Edward Game live, Saturday 11-13 @ 7:00pm.

4 interceptions in the second half dooms Glenville
PARMA, Ohio ? St. Edward coach Rick Finotti said the second half was gut-check time.

Heck, the whole game was gut-check time on both sides, from start to finish and all the craziness in between.

St. Edward answered better in what was regarded as the biggest football game of the year.

With more than 10,000 fans watching on a balmy Saturday night -- all things considered -- the Eagles answered loud and clear.

St. Edward's defense came up bigger than nearby Parmatown, intercepting four passes that led to a come-from-behind 42-22 victory over Glenville in a Division I regional semifinal game at Byers Field.

The Eagles scored 28 straight points to erase a two-point halftime deficit, knock off the state's top-ranked team, raise their record to 12-0 and erase every memory from last year's 4-6 season.

Recruiting Update: Glenville Academic Woes << The Buckeye Battle Cry

Unfortunately, as the title indicates, this update is full of more apparent bad news on the Glenville recruiting front.

Last week, I mentioned that Ohio State's interest in Akise Teague is likely due to uncertainty about Shane Wynn's status with the Buckeyes.

I also speculated that the recent offer to JUCO defensive line prospect Tank Carradine may have been the death knell for Andre Sturdivant's chances at being a Buckeye.

The initial optimism about Carradine's interest in Ohio State may have been exaggerated, but the implications in regard to Sturdivant remain the same.

If that weren't enough, the most recent Buckeye recruiting buzz is of an impending offer to Illinois lineman Chris Bryant (teammates with 2012 line prospect Jordan Diamond, who is receiving early interest from Ohio State).

It doesn't take much imagination to see that Bryant's listed measurables (6'5" 330 lbs.) are almost identical to Glenville's Aundrey Walker.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say no one from Glenville ends up in this year's class...the only exception might be Walker. But if Chris Bryant is offered...

I'd be fine with that. Not very impressed with this group of prospects. And our results with Glenville kids have been pretty spotty lately. With few exceptions (Browning was valedictorian), almost every Glenville kid lately has had academic issues.

A Bryant offer would definitely bring some clarity but I wouldn't be surprised if there are no more bigs in this class. Everything I've heard is that Walker and Bryant both project to be guards and it seem like there are already plenty of interior linemen in this class.

Christian Bryant?

Jermil Martin, Ray Small, Shaq Rowell, Rob Rose, Dareus Hiley, Freddie Lenix...point being that it's been 50/50...compare that list to Bryant, Browning, O'Neal, Terry, Smith, Ginn, Hines and Whitner.

it certainly seems like the Ohio State staff is "putting their foot down" with Glenville and academics, you can only hope that the message is sent without too many hurt feelings

given the relationship between Tressel and Ginn Sr. I am hopeful that there will continue to be a pipeline... but I guess we will see

Never met the man, but from what I've seen Ginn Sr. is a remarkable guy and has turned a lot of kids lives around and a fine educator. I suspect a guy like that will use a no offer year as a teaching tool and suggest to his super athletes that struggle with academics to button their ass down and get the grades so they can go to the proper school, the one they really really want to get into tOSU. Look forward to many more stud Tarblooders...but they have to make the grades and test scores.
