Cleveland Cavs (2016 NBA Champions)

I'd much rather take Moultrie than Melo, if both are available at #24. Hell, I'd rather take the best available wing at 24, then take Kyle O'Quinn at 33, rather than taking Melo.

I only saw Melo play in one game last year, but he owned Drummond the whole game. I think getting him him in the locker room with Andy would help him.

It's not a knock on Melo or a vote for Drummond, rather, I just think Moultrie and O'Quinn are a little bit better. In OQ's case, it may afford the Cavs to get a wing with their second pick and still get a decent center with #33.

No doubt, Melo is a great shot blocker, but I'm wondering how he'll perform away from that Syracuse zone. The other two are just better rebounders than Melo, and O'Quinn is just as good a shot blocker, if not better.

I would love love love a way for the Cavs to move up around 10-15 and grab Terrence Ross.

Kid will be a real good wing.

1. Gamble on Drummond at 4
2. Trade up and get a little more sure thing with a wing like Ross
3. Get the best structure and development team surrounding these guys
4. ???
5. Profit

Agreed. I do not get the fasination folks have with Melo when you can get more at 24. I have a feeling alot of teams will have a very fluid draft board come 28 June. After Davis at #1, no telling what's going to happen and who is going where to be honest.

Ok lets see.
Drummond at 4
Trade Andy and a second rounder to Portland for the 11
Trade Gee, cash, and the 24 to the Suns for the 13

Have a starting lineup with 3 rookies, 2 second year players and develop the shit out of them. I love the mock with Barnes going #2. Hope Jordan goes full retard and pulls that one. If the Bobcats want Barnes or Robinson they better be talking to teams to move down.

The other thing with going for broke with a guy like Drummond and his humongous boom or bust potential- the Cavs will likely suck next year as he will not be close to developed.

And that could put them in prime position to grab a guy like Shabazz next year.

That is the beauty of Dan Gilbert... he isn't afraid to tell his GM "Money is no object, get me the best players/trade for higher draft choices"

So trading up from #4 to #2, or even buying a pick in the teens. One reason the draft is a much watch as there is nothing that would surprise me that the Cavs will try to do.

You can't keep drafting in the lottery. At some point, you have to make your move, especially when a guy like Kyrie could decide he wants to be somewhere else. And there is no such thing as "prime position" to get anybody since even the team with the worst record has a 1 in 4 shot.

I'm sold on Harrison Barnes if we can't get Bradley Beal. He has great size for a wing player; he has a good outside shot that will help spread the floor for Kyrie. I feel like Barnes had some confidence issues at UNC, likely as a product of Roy Williams' coaching. But he has immense talent, solid athleticism, and he doesn't need to be the "man" with Kyrie on the team. He reminds me of Paul Pierce (from a size and skill standpoint) and that's not a bad guy for him to try and emulate.

Drummond has bust written all over him. All. Over. Him. I don't even know where to begin with the problems associated with overrating "size". He has no defining basketball "skill" and doesn't bring anything offensively to the table, for a team that is losing Jamison and already has Varejao and Tristan Thompson. He adds no value to this team next year and I don't want three tanking seasons in a row. It just adds to a culture of losing you do not want around the cornerstone of your franchise: Kyrie Irving.

Barnes has great size and athleticism but he struggles in creating his own shot. He can't get open if he has the ball. That's what worries me.

He can. He just needs the confidence to know he can. Plus, we have Kyrie who would continue to be the go-to-guy in those situations where we need someone to creat their own shot AND who can help create shots for others.

I don't necessarily disagree. However, look at Seattle/OKC and the Durant model:

06-07: 5th worst record, 2nd pick in Lottery (Durant)
07-08: 20-62 (.244), 2nd worst record, 4th pick (Westbrook)
08-09: 23-59 (.280), 4th worst record, 3rd pick (Harden)
09-10: 50-32 (.610)
10-11: 55-27 (.671)
11-12: 47-19 (.712)

Kyrie has shown that will to win just like Durant. I don't think that will just go away. Sizes aren't comparable but ability to create and make shots are similar. Kyrie is the Durant of the Cavs moving forward. Now they just need some more pieces and I don't think tanking 1 more year will hurt.

I'd prefer (in order) MKG, Beal, or Barnes. Just throwing out that Drummond will be in the discussion and how to work with it (trade up and get a wing).

The 2013 Center class looks pretty good too (Zeller, Noel, Adams) so another reason to go 2/3 this time around.

But not being good next year is a very real possibility, even a probability, imo.

Sign and trade. He's still and RFA so the Cavs could force the Suns to pay for him if they want him.

found it. you can't sign a guy as a free agent and trade him for one year.

with respect to restricted free agents, the same rule applies, except that you can't trade him to any team that made him an offer. so, all phx has to do is extend an offer to him and the cavs either have to pony up and keep him, or let him walk, and since free agency doesn't start until after the draft, this isn't going to happen for a draft pick this year.
