Cavs just landed Timofey Mogzgov ... guess he's a big guy... seems like we're losing a LOT of tradebait

There's your rim protector. He's no stiff, he has some skill. Not just some block of cement under the rim. Pretty good move, IMO.

So they've jettisoned a problem-child for another head-case scorer and a perimeter defender and added a skilled center. All in all, that's a pretty productive couple of days.

They've recognized the serious issues and are addressing them, so that's nice.

The best thing about Wiggins was his rookie salary. I think this Cavs team needed Love's ability to score in the paint. I was hopeful Love would put more effort in on defense but he appears to be what he is. Even so, the Cavs were actually coming together before Varejao was injured.
I still like the Love trade simply for the balance. If we can get Love to sign long term, we can always trade him later. He is still a huge asset.

I love the trades. Cavs needed to make something happen. Mozgov is only 28, he is 7'1 and can step right into the starting role.
He can also backup Varejao next year, which still leaves us with Haywood's contract to make another big trade.

All we gave up basically was Waiters and the Memphis pick. We got back, a bench scorer, a defender and a starting 7'1 center.
I think the Cavs won that deal.

What I assume is in their heads... they will be in horrible draft position.. since they fully expect to be in the elite levels
so draft choices are not valuable
coupled with the ace up their sleeve is Haywoods contract .. which should land them a valuable piece

Over next couple years some of the elderly will hang up their spurs but there will be others at end of their careers that will want to jump on board
My quandary is Thompson... can we sign him.. is he part of the future

I don't think that's even a title at this point. You can pretty much assume Varejao is going to miss >1/2 the season with injury.

Regrettably.. I semi-write off anyone that has had the Achilles snap.. cuz it often happens again.. and again
Love Andy but that's a rough ass injury... that never comes back all the way...

I'm glad to see the front office do what was necessary to get Mosgov, but it seems like Denver would've eventually made the trade for one pick. I'm excited to see how this team plays with Irving, Shumpert, LeBron, Love, and Mosgov on the floor at once.

The Cavs were able to get a Center who will be under contract for this year and next, but the problems come in with Thompson and Shumpert, both of whom have expiring contracts this year. Our Haywood trade next year may be used to replace one of them.

This [Mark May] will be the all-time poster child of Cleveland being Cleveland.

Cleveland professional sports (Browns, Indians, and Cavs) are becoming a real..

I like the latest moves
We needed help at center - got it
We needed scoring off the bench - got it
We needed defense in that starting 5 - got it
We needed to do something about the fact Dion just didn't fit and seemed to be a problem child who couldn't defend a goal post - done
Future addl draft picks weren't part of the integral future plan - done
We need the future flexibility that will come with Haywood contract - still there
We need to figure out the Thompson issue - TBD

and we're doing this in January when it doesn't matter
cuz the only thing that matters is having it figured out by May
