Cleveland Browns (official thread of Masochism 2015)

This is absurd... on the NFL's part, not anybody else's. Why do we continue to follow this league?
On one hand I agree, hence this...
Looking forward to the NFL banning all of those Super Bowl beer commercials.

On the other hand, I mean, he had a DUI, it's not uncommon for no alcohol to be a part of probation LEGALLY, let alone an NFL policy- either of which Josh should have known.

It's also difficult to test positive for alcohol (depending if it was a simple breath test (really dumb to fail) or an EtG (less dumb but still)).

I'm not sure why there's any outrage. Wasn't it already a foregone conclusion he'd fuck up again? I know I expected it. I think I even said when he was suspended for the season finale that we had already seen his last game. The only thing mildly surprising is that it is so soon. I thought he'd at least wait until spring.

He was already on thin ice with the league and he's had a DUI. It's not that absurd.

If this was a first time offense then yes, that would be absurd, but it isn't. It's clear this guy has an issue.

It's plenty absurd. The NFL consistently lets the big stuff slide and punishes the little shit with an iron fist. It creates policies that make SERIOUS PUBLIC CRIMES AGAINST THE SHIELD out of nothing.
It's Super Bowl week. What are the biggest stories in the NFL right now?
  • Marshawn Lynch grabs his crotch. The NFL is gonna ramp up punishment.
  • Marshawn Lynch doesn't speak to the media. The NFL is gonna ramp up punishment.
  • The Patriots under-inflated some footballs. The NFL is posturing.
  • Josh Gordon had some alcohol. The NFL is gonna ban his ass.
It's not outrage. I don't really care that much about Josh Gordon or the Browns. I'm just bored with the league. It's a farce. Does anybody else think the NFL is as fun to watch now as it was in the 80's or 90's?

The 80's, no...I hated the 90's, because the same 5 teams were good every year. I agree the league is a farce, but not for banning a guy that has violated the same policy about 500 times.

It is a farce when the league bans a player for using alcohol when they generate an ungodly amount of money selling it and promoting it.

Josh Gordon is an idiot, he knows the policy and makes dumb decisions anyway. Josh Gordon being an idiot doesn't mean the league stands on solid ground.

Well, yes, except he had a DUI, so he's on probation. I can drink, you can drink, Johnny Manziel can clearly drink, Josh Gordon can't while he's on probation. Doesn't matter if alcohol is legal, or who is making money on it. There's a lot of reasons to hate the farce that is the NFL front office and it's policies...I just don't agree that this is one.
