I don’t think he did. All the evidence people are using is a still photo where it appears Mason is reaching for his helmet. You can’t see his left hand so people are running with that.

Obviously Garrett acted inappropriately and should be suspended. The real question is how many games should he be suspended. I do think the injury to the opponent should factor into the suspension - if all Rudolph has is a bruise, then that should be a shorter suspension than if he has a concussion or broken bones. There is not a ton of precedent involving punishment for inappropriate striking of opponents in the NFL. That being said, if Haynesworth got 5 games for stomping on a dude's head and making him get 32 stitches, there has to be some injury to Rudolph to merit a suspension of that length IMO. If Rudolph is not seriously hurt, I don't think the suspension should be more than 3-4 games.

Rudolph didn't even get injured, and unlike Gurode actually put himself in harm's way by going after Garrett and swinging at his nuts while not having a helmet, but somehow this is worse?

I'm old enough to remember when the Pats and Seahawks got in a fight in the end zone near the very end of the 2015 Super Bowl. What suspensions happened then? My point is fighting in the NFL is tolerated to an extent, and guys don't often get suspended. Obviously Garrett crossed the line, but the NFL still lets a lot of pushing, shoving and swinging go without any punishment in terms of missed games.

You guys say on one hand Garrett should get suspended, but he was only reacting to something done to him......but you don't afford that same defense to Rudolph. I'm fine either way with Mason getting a game off or, in this case, him not getting one. Emotions will run high in 2 weeks and I doubt a young QB will just magically start seeing the field better when running a little hot.
In this scenario, it might be the best for the Browns. As we see how bad things get facing a QB with no starts under his belt.

I don’t think the hit was late. He couldn’t have seen the ball leave the QB’s hand as he got there almost simultaneously and his head was on the opposite side of the throwing arm. And he made sure he didn’t land on top of him, so it wasn’t roughing. I think Mason was frustrated and overreacted. Also, if Baker did what Mason did, the general reaction would be totally different. I’m not a Browns fan, surely not a Baker fan, and overall, I kind of hate the NFL. But Mason started that shit.

There wasn't a flag on the hit so it wasn't late. I can see Garrett getting it reduced to 6 since they can't give indefinite suspensions for on field events. Maybe 4 if they make a case out of the nut kick and say he called him the n word.
