Cleveland Browns (Factory of Sadness)

Sounds like my beloved Falcons (be nice) are going to hire Tommy Rees as an OC and just get the whole gang back together 700 miles south in Atlanta.

What am I in for? Rumors are heavily swirling that Stefansky will resume the mantle of play caller but I don't know if that's preferable.

I think Stefanski was an amazing play caller prior to be being neutered by the FO.

His run game concepts mixed with play action are incredible. He’s done wonders with average QB’s so not sure why the Browns thought jamming a guaranteed $230M QB in DeShaun Watson was a good idea….

I don’t love the QB room in Atlanta even though Cousins has had success with him….Kirk has obviously aged quite a bit. But if I were a Falcons fan, I’d be pumped by the thought of Bijan Robinson and what he can do with Stefanski.

Thank you.
Apparently (no confirmation) Penix doesn't love getting under center. He credits his success in college to the shotgun and Pistol formations.

This obviously creates a problem for the play action game. We'll see where this leads...

If Stefanski was running the Offense with Nick Chubb he should work well with Bijan. Like he mentioned it wasn't until they had the worst QB situation in the league that the Browns Offense became inept though I would look at trading Penix out of there i hear Miami had a QB for sale.

If it isn't Gibbs, BRob should be your fantasy 1.01 pick.

I do see Stef & Rees were condensing more formations this season in an effort to create more space outside. Lacking OL & WR talent shot that one to hell.

Falcons have a quality OL, so seeing them getting back to a wide zone base would do wonders.

As for Penix, barring QB centric running games, the most dynamic rushing teams start under center. He would do well to understand how this would benefit his game, offensive efficiency, integrate his legs & spare his health (similar to Lamar Jackson under Todd Monken year 1)

I’ll prob get roasted for this, but I always thought if Justin Fields could get paired with Stefanski, it’d be by far, his best route to success. Even before the Browns traded for Watson, I made that point about Fields.

Stefanski’s system is incredibly easy to execute for a QB because it’s so reliant on the run game. The play action that comes off it makes it so there’s really onto (2) reads. If neither is open you find the check down, throw it away, or scramble.

It’s why the Browns coveted Watson and yet, it was so mind-numbingly stupid. You don’t need a $230M QB to operate Stefanski’s offense. The idea was Watson would add that physical ability to run if the defense took away the primary read. After his suspension though, Watson was an athletic shell of what he was in Houston.

Ideally, you pair a “relatively” average QB with Stefanski and use the remaining cap to build an elite O-line to run ball, and a stout defense.

The formula is simple. Of course, the Browns fucked it up.

My friend you just described the Seatle Seahawks.

1). Average to above average QB
2). GREAT running game
3). Good defense (in the case of Seattle - really, really good defense).

Browns and Chargers DC Jesse Minter agree to cancel today’s 2nd interview because he feels more certain to get other HC chances

The above is a headline from the local main Browns beat reporter for the Cleveland paper/website. You have to love this organization. However, I am sure they will spin it as a positive for the organization.

What’s even funnier is the fact that the Browns had Minter pegged as “one of their finalists.”

Cleveland talk radio hosts are having a field day with that notion with nearly unanimous agreement that as soon as the Baltimore job opened up and Minter interviewed, that he was the odds on favorite and a shoe in for the position and had zero legitimate interest as being the Browns head coach.

What. A. Shit. Show.
