Cleveland Browns (Factory of Sadness)

He’s got a 41M salary next year... he ain’t done yet...

Looks like Ben has 22M dead cap next year and 19M that they would have to pay him. Will be interesting to see if they can renegotiate that 19M down. Noted the the surgery that he had takes pitchers 2 years to recover from so he could be better next year than he was this year, but he's almost 40 so age isn't on his side. They have a lot of FA's and a lower salary cap next year, which is going to hurt.

The Browns will only get better now that they have an offseason to to improve the defense. I'm pretty sure the only FA on the offense is Higgins. The biggest problem they have is guys like Chubb, Baker, Ward, and Teller are going to need extensions.

The entire offseason of acquisitions should be devoted to the back 7...and finding a goddamn kicker. Otherwise, lock the good players up and keep the OL in tact.

Ben looks like he is done, as in over it. I'm not sure he still has the competitive drive to play his best every game. It seems like there are a lot of bad lapses coming out of him.
Stillers' roster is about to get gutted in FA and they're in cap hell. They look like they might have a serious rebuild ahead of them. No reason for him to come back. The guy looks like a 40 year old bricklayer but made it 17 years in the NFL and won a couple of rings. Time to move on to competitive eating.

Harrison and Ward are probably the only keepers in the back 7. Delpit and Phillips have a chance, but the rest of the starters on those units need to be replaced. Mitchell, Joseph, and maybe a couple of the LB can be depth if they are still around, but the LB group needs to find a stud. Wilson and Takitaki probably aren't going anywhere even if they aren't starters. The DL has several expiring contracts so they will need to make some decisions there. Billings will be back next year, which will help the run defense, but they need a DE opposite of Garrett. Vernon will be gone. I don't think you can come out of the offseason counting on Greedy being a starting CB. Best case they fill the spot opposite Ward with someone else and they have a battle with Greedy for 2nd/3rd CB.

If not for covid/injuries the defense probably wouldn't be as crappy as it is. Greedy, Delpit, and Billings would have been starters or key role players. I think Berry felt pretty good about the DL and DB's coming into the season and hoped the LB's would be good enough.

Nothing impresses me more than the Browns OL performance...
outrageous fact they were forced to use a rookie lineman that had never so much as practiced a snap with this team
Baker met him for the first time in the locker room before the game

Browns got him because he was the only body that qualified: he could be there in mere hours and he was part of an NFL testing pgm within the acceptable window (he was on Jets practice squad roster and tested negative that morning)

4th string players.. in a playoff game to no less The Pittsburgh Steelers

I was thinking "they're going to have to use 3rd/4th string TEs at tackle and move the backup tackle to guard"

No OL coach, no Asst OL coach avail... amazing
and NO sacks

Hats off
