Kizer was equally awful...most of his biggest mistakes got saved by penalties

No doubt. Although if Kizer has one excuse, it's that he is a 21 year old rookie in his first preseason. That said, I've never been sold on Kizer. He was just a wasted pick with the potential to play just well enough that the Browns pass on one of the premier QBs in next years draft due to them wanting to give Kizer the chance to develop if he shows hints of promise, thus keeping the Browns as that team that is perennially awful and yet never getting rewarded by getting an actual top flight QB in any draft. It's a fine balance that they keep almost perfectly.

I had the game on for background noise, and looked up every once in a while to see where they had gerbil. I didn't see him other than a punt return. Did he play?

I watched a decent amount last night and forgot to even look for him. Never heard his name once but I also only watched the first half. He has "4th quarter time only" written all over him.

Like any rookie Kizer did some ok things and some not Ok things. Him recognizing the slot blitz and standing tall to deliver against pressure was nice. The receivers have to get into the DB's hip a little quicker and be out
of their breaks the same when we're throwing hot.

I don't put the sack on him. That's JPP recognizing the formation and being an animal. QB is still an issue but the defense looks improved, RB group looks solid, pass catchers dont make me vomit at the thought of them.

So 3 wins? Maybe 4? Which is what you want with three 1st round picks coming up. You can identify your QB, another talent in the front 7 or God willing, DB and finally a top flight receiver.

I don't expect a fast turn around and never did. But so long as everybody is kept in place, there is a sliver of hope.

A couple punt returns. One where he ran out of bounds to avoid contact or trying a cutback/fake or anything. I heard his name once as a pile on tackle assist.
