Cleveland Browns (2016 thread of unrelenting dumpster conflagration)

Fact is, nobody will know for sure if this was a smart move for a couple of years when we see how Wentz does in LA and Goff does in Philly (or vice versa). I think the two of them ending up as the top two picks is the product of a QB crazy league whipping itself into a frenzy, and artificially inflating their value. Tennessee and (holy shit) the clowns were the beneficiaries of the market. When elite QBs come out, you hear analysts talking about their attributes, who they compare to, their strengths. I'm not hearing much of that on either of these kids...all I'm hearing is what QB-needy teams are gonna move up to take them. Six weeks ago, mocks had Goff going later in the top 10 (mostly to SF) and Wentz anywhere from #7 to the mid-teens. What that indicates to me is that teams were simply competing with each other to move up to grab a QB, not necessarily based on their ability, but solely on the fact that they really, really, really want a QB this year.

Just because a guy is picked top-2, does not mean he's worth it...hello Rick Mirer, Ryan Leaf, Akili Smith, and post 2012 RGIII.

Well you said the best QBs are found in the top 10 :p

Give up 6 spots (& 2, 4) for a 1, 2, 3 & 4? That's a great deal.

The rams gave up 1, 2, 2 & 3 (gaining a 4 & 6) but they had to move up 14 spots.
Quarterback is so important to any team that it is worth a king's ransom to get a great one. If Wentz goes to the Eagles and becomes Ben Roethlisberger 2.0, then the Browns will have gotten royally screwed in this trade.

Yes, I understand that Wentz could be a bust. The Browns had two options: (A) take Wentz at #2, which is a risk that might produce a franchise QB; or (B) trade down and don't draft a QB, which is a risk that will definitely not produce a franchise QB.

I am taking risk "A" 100% of the time.

Will Bosa drop to #8?? Zeke out of the top 10?? I don't really believe either will happen.

Zeke to Cleveland at 8 is a decent spot for both although with those other picks coming, Browns could easily grab Henry at top of 2nd round and fill spot on the Oline in the first maybe.

I like building at least cornerstones of the lines first then the playmakers but Browns need a lot.

Wait until 2018? When the best pro prospect in many years comes out in Josh Rosen?
Good lord! Browns fans are already looking forward to the 2018 draft? No wonder the insanity will never stop.

Goff is exactly the same weight as DeShaun
Not quite. Goff measured 6'4" 215 pounds at the combines, so he is 2 inches taller and 10 pounds heavier than Watson.

Anybody taking Miles Jack in the top-10 is taking an enormous risk. I read somewhere that he may have a degenerative knee condition. If that's the case, he'll be lucky to last 3 years in the league.

My guesses
Browns trade #2 pick.. maybe get #1, #2, #4 and a player this year... #1, #3, #5 next
They have too many needs.. and free agency was anything but a bonanza
They go for DE, CB, WR, OT, DT, LB in first couple rounds
They take a QB but hope to get lucky on round 2 or 3.. RG III is their QB for next few years; they'd be smart to keep McGown; and Pryor is safety stock

The Cleveland Browns are trading the No. 2 pick in this year's NFL draft to thePhiladelphia Eagles for five selections over the next two years.

The Browns will get the Eagles' 2016 first-round pick (No. 8 overall) and their third- and fourth-round picks this year. They also get the Eagles' 2017 first-round pick and the Eagles' 2018 second-rounder.

The Eagles will get the Browns' 2016 first-round pick (No. 2 overall) and a conditional fourth-round pick from the the Browns in the 2017 draft.

If Hue didn't want Wentz and wanted Goff... would you still have taken Wentz at #2? I mean they could just replace the coach with someone who liked him.

They could get a QB in the later rounds that ends up being a franchise QB (that even wins a Super Bowl). It has happened before with some other teams. Besides Tom Brady.....

Joe Montana, round 3, #82

Mark Rypien, round 6, #146

Brad Johnson, round 9, #277

Joe Theismann. round 4, #99

Bart Starr, round 17, #199

But these are Browns we are talking about, so it probably won't happen.

exactly. No way either of those Bucks are going that low and I'll be stoked if Darron Lee goes to the Phins since he's the best OLB in this draft.

Redskins fan and the cousins bridge will likely break down by then.

I stand corrected. The Google led me astray
