Cleveland Browns (2014 Season)

I have heard the opposite...as in the only reason this Gase character is even in the conversation is because Jinny talked to Peyton, as they are friends back from their UT days.

I can see that, but also heard Jimmy wanted Whisenhunt and the reason he was interviewed.

Ok, I will recant a lil... If Haslem doesn't like the hire, they won't hire him. And he may suggest some people, but if Banner doesn't like him, he can persuade Haslem otherwise. But more importantly, if this coach fails, Banner will be blamed and take the fall (whether he leaves or gets demoted and hire a GM that makes all the calls)

Oh I agree, someone else will take the fall. Little doubt of that from his Pilot Flying J thingy.

Haslem is? From everything I have heard and read he is deferring to Banner's vision of the Browns.
For years, Browns fans wanted Lerner to sell the team to an owner who would be more "hands on". Well, now you've got one.

Haslem lets everyone know that he's in charge, and that's the reason that Chip Kelly is coaching the Eagles today.

I think "hands on" in the more figurative sense or in the process of just having an interest in the team.

Yes, Haslam has been a mook. We wanted an owner that would at least want to field a winning team, not a Jerry Jones rehash.

I'm worried, this is the most important offseason in recent memory(they are all important). I say this because the Browns have so many draft picks in the first four rounds and the most cap room of any team in the league. If they are going to make a big jump in improvement this offseason, they need to be very successful in acquiring some football players that can bolster and fill the holes on the current roster.

In a way, it really does not matter who the HC is because if he does not have the players, especially the QB, the team is not going to win. Just look around the league and tell me which team is winning with not so good players with an excellent coach..

Well, in many cases this is true of course...but I'd say Bellichick, for example, has one of his worst teams, and he still keeps making AFC Championship games. Meanwhile teams loaded with talent, like the Lions and some recent Cowboys teams, miss the playoffs because of either coaching, or ownership, or something...but I'd say those teams typically have plenty of talent, yet they go nowhere without the coaching.

There are 3-4 QB's in the NFL that are good enough to take their team to the playoffs or Super Bowl by raising the level of play of the guys around them. If you had put Brady or Manning on the Browns this season they were at least a playoff team with Chud and Turner. Sure Belichick is one of the few elite coaches in the NFL, but without Brady he wouldn't have the rings. The reason NE can keep getting deep in the playoffs is because they are one of the few teams with a great coach and QB. Teams like the Lions and Cowboys might have a lot of really good players, but they also have a lot of players that are prone to fucking up at bad times.

That's true; take Brady off that team and the rest of the current active roster is pretty.....eh. I think you could take the Browns, put Patriots jerseys on them, keep Brady at QB and the NE staff in charge and that team is in the same spot, AFC Championship.

a good OL, a decent stable of rb's and a HOF QB......one of the worst teams? not close.
