I have found this whole scenario hilarious... of course I am biased. I don't like Haslem at all... and it's because of Flying J/Pilot. Cuz my wife works for TravelCenters of America... which is based in Westlake and considers itself the largest truck stop company (gotta love semantics)

Always joked with my wife they should pony up the money to pay for the Stadium naming rights just for the humor in it

The worst part is I blame Goodell... he served Haslem up on a plate to Lerner and to later find out he is a crook?!?!? And from what I have heard... Haslem is going to jail, the FBI doesn't spend 2 years investigating your company and then make a big show of serving a warrant at the HQ without knowing they are going to nail these guys to the wall. They have 2 whistleblowers and tape recordings... yep... this is all over.

I can totally see the sale being voided and we get Lerner back... OIC

Maybe the league can force Jimmy to sell to Gilbert at a discount. The difference between the NFL and other sports is you make money, especially if you can find a way to put a winning product on the field in Cleveland.

I don't know what people expected Goodell to find in the background check of Jimmy. Somehow I doubt he could go the the FBI and ask them if there was any reason not to let him buy the Browns and get a straight answer.

Didn't Lerner own a soccer team?

I said Major sports franchise  soccer doesn't count in the USA... On a side note you are right.. I think he brought a majority stake in Aston Villa, I think, but that was long after he had been browns owner

You can be a part owner of multiple teams, I just don't think it can be in the same city.

Stan Kroenke owns (at least partially) the Rams, Nuggets, Avalanche, Rapids, Arsenal, etc.

The NFL apparently doesn't allow you to be the majority owner of other teams in their other markets though but that's the only league with a rule like that. He transferred the Nuggets into his sons name it says.
