Cleveland Browns (2013 Season)

So, which is it?

The "core of younger players" includes that "terrible line" and that "crappy QB" ... not to mention Greg "Stonefingers" Little and Chris Ogbonnaya. So where is the optimism? Josh Gordon? Jordan Cameron? Other than them, who?

Well, I guess the optimism is that they would be improve and be less crappy than they were last year?

Honestly, I'm just going off what I've read in this thread where a number of folks were figuring 8-8 would be reasonable with an outside shot at the playoffs.

The more I think of it - the more the trade of personnel doesn't bother me. Mailing in the season before the 3rd game bothers the fuck out of me.

Had we drafted chance Warmack and the line not suck a fat one, I doubt this situation would be occurring.

8-8 with an even average NFL line was a very realistic possibility. Especially given the down year the AFC north is having.

I won't complain until I see how Trent performs in Indy and how we spend the draft pick. At this point, draft BridgeWater/Boyd. Spend FA on the Oline. Drop the other pick on either a WR or a CB (how sick would it be to see Roby across from Haden?!?) and spend the 2nd-4th rounders on proven productive college players to help develop some much needed depth.

Of course this conversation becomes much different if Trent blows up as a Colt.

i dont think its a question of IF he blows up as a colt...just look at the track record...cleveland players that are traded or leave for a new team always do well...the proof is near 100% at this point

name one.

Jeff Faine.
Kam Wimbley has done pretty well for himself with the Raiders.
Winslow had several good seasons once he was traded from Cleveland....

It isn't many, usually because the Browns have shitty players by and large, but when players who have some talent, like Richardson does, they usually do well.

jeff faine and kam wimbley have been average at best. and that's being pretty kind. winslow was out of football for a while 2 seasons after the trade.

Jeff Faine was a multi-year starter in the NFL after he left the Browns.

Kam Wimbley's production off the edge would have been very nice the past two seasons.

Kellen Winslow led the Bucs in receptions and yards for the 3 years he was there after the trade, so I really don't think you know what you're talking about here.

jeff faine was a journeyman that never stayed anywhere long after they realized he was not that good.
wimbley is average. that's all he's ever been.
winslow got paid a fortune for the kind of production that jordan cameron is on track to double this year, and then has been a washed up nothing.

so if you want to argue two years of winslow playing well, you can, but the other guys are decidedly average, which certainly doesn't affirm the original premise.

I'm not a Browns fan so I'm sure I don't understand everything, but I like this trade from the Browns perspective. Richardson is a pretty ordinary back---the kind of back who will get yards in a good situation and not get yards in a bad one. There are a lot of those out there. And he has some injury issues. If you are a bad team trading that guy for a mid to late 1st makes sense. You can get a good offensive lineman there (one that will make the back you draft in the 3rd look better than he is.) And, hey, if the deal makes the team slightly worse and you get a higher pick in 2014, why not do it? You may not get Bridgewater, but Marcus Mariota is approximately 47 times more intriguing as a franchise QB than Brandon Weeden.

Whatever man, you just want to roll over and take whatever shit this franchise feeds you. More power to you I guess. If that means ignoring that Winslow was a productive player when he left, well dammit ignore it! Wimbley gets to the QB? Well shit this team NEVER needed that in the past couple seasons at all! Solid if not spectcular O-lineman? Nah this team never needs those at all, they grow on trees!

I'd take fucking average on this team. Average would be a marked improvement. But enjoy your 1-15 season this year and your 4-12 seasons for the next 2 or 3 or whenever they blow it up again. I'm sure you'll be here spewing the same shit as always.

Not indicative of this trade- I've actually cooled on it, though I really do think he'll find success here in Indy.

But, there is no doubt in my mind you could take any Browns' season ticket holder and let him run the franchise for any 18 month period and have more success than the Browns have had the last 14 years.

They have literally made the wrong move 9 out of 10 times.
