Pardon my ignorance - I wasn't aware that this was his "2nd strike" with the NFL...?

The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports Josh Gordon is already in Stage 3 of the NFL's drug program and is now one failed drug test away from a one-year suspension.

Gordon's February failed drug test for codeine was his "second strike," suggesting he either failed another drug test before that, or entered the NFL already in the league's drug program. The codeine test vaulted Gordon into Stage 3. As Browns beat reporter Mary Kay Cabot writes, "One more failed test and Gordon's storybook NFL career could be in serious jeopardy." Players suspended for one year under the substance policy can apply for reinstatement after the year is up. For now, Gordon is only suspended for Weeks 1 and 2.

Guy clearly has a problem with sizzurp. Same drug of choice for Jamarcus Russell. Stuff is really addicting for one, but two, it is awful for your body. Anyone who believes his story about strep is very naive.

Oh swell, just when I thought we had all the "THE"s we could handle (The move, the decision, the drive, etc.), now we have: THE Purple Drank :slappy:

well, he obviously had a prescription of some sort to get 2 games knocked off the suspension via appeal.

whether or not he used it for an actual ailment or for purple drank is the real question.

That's my opinion. If there was any doubt with the NFL about his story he'd be serving a 4 game suspension like Haden did last year. I just wish the Browns could lock him in the team facility and only let him out to play games.

Coming from a kid that was kicked off two football teams, so far he's been
Pretty straight until this.

Avoiding the troubling mentalities isn't an overnight process. All we can hope is
That this last scare is in fact, his last.

Sounds like Gordon's story might have been BS. I agree that I hope this is what forces him to clean up his act or it will make LOLbardi look smart and nobody wants that.

this article was a failure. the list he referenced is from 2010.

here's an article from 2011 where the NFL directly states they test for codeine now in the wake of the purple drank fad:

just an example of someone trying to put thoughts in print without doing the necessary research.

Why on Earth would anybody lie to cover up marijuana use by saying were using opiates instead?

More likely is he was actually busted for codeine and the lie was that he had a legit reason for taking it because:
  1. Occam's razor.
  2. Strep throat can be treated with penicillin.

Meh, LeBron is like Madonna used to be in the 90s, when people used to call her "famous, even among famous people". Athletes star-gaze at LeBron like celebs do Clooney. Nothing to get a hairball about unless Drake is supplying the purple drank or something.
