Cleveland Browns (2012 season)

I have wanted Richardson from the beginning.

Run the ball and play defense will win you games in the NFL. With 13 picks there is absolutely no reason this team can't get better fast.

Christ almighty Browns fans only want you to get to 8-8 or 9-7 Holmgren. This team as constructed wins 2 games next year maybe.

I really wouldn't mind Richardson at 4, it's certainly not as big of a reach as tannehill at 4. There's just so many holes to fill that I'd prefer trading down for more picks. If someone wants to trade up to 4...swap 1st's and get a 2nd or a 3rd and picks next year. Obviously it depends on how far down they'd be moving but make the other teams pay for that 4 spot.

Otherwise Trent at 4 is solid. In my IMO.

+1. Imagine a College team getting 13 of the top 250 players.

I could support the shit out of Richardson at #4, though I still prefer Claiborne there...anything but Tannehill

you might want to start prepping yourself for this.

as an interesting aside, chris weinke gets a ton of credit from cam newton and nfl folks for totally overhauling newton's throwing and getting him ready for the nfl.

weinke's latest project is tannehill, and weinke raves about him and the progress he's made.

but the browns are bringing tannehill in for a private workout soon where he won't just be throwing against air in scripted throws. that will be the real deciding factor. if you don't hear a peep out of the browns about the workout, then you know they love him.

ive been reading alot of stuff lately about the browns strongly considering taking Tannehill at #4...i hope its all a smoke screen to throw people off, but i could definitely see the browns doing this...they fell flat on their face with the move to get RGIII, and ive heard rumors of them pursuing possibly Matt Hasselback...they have 0% confidence in Colt McCoy now, and in the future...for everyone praying we wouldnt trade for RGIII you got your wish, now meet your maker

Apparently, his physical skills are off-the-charts. But, he's started 19 college games. I watched a couple of Aggie games last year, and never came away impressed with him. In fact, I was in awe of how fast he went "zero to retard" against Texas on Thanksgiving night. I never would have pegged him as a serious QB prospect...let alone a top-5 pick.

It would take a special kind of stupid to draft that big of a project at #4 with so many needs. Sadly, it's something I would never put past the clowns. :(

Hasnt there been some correlation between the # of starts in College being a fairly important factor in QB success in the NFL.. I'm saying stud but the difference between serviceable and flat out bust?

that used to be a pretty widely held belief. however, brady quinn, jimmy claussen and cam newton have pretty much quashed that line of thinking for the time being.

but then again, mark sanchez is working hard to keep it alive.

With thirteen picks, they could take offensive play makers in the first and still
find 4 or 5 offensive line prospects to groom. As bad as the Browns are, they should come out of this with upgrades at no less than 6 positions. I'm still not at all sold on Heckert.

FYI tony grossi thinks we will take richardson if anyone cares to side with him

The day the Browns draft plan became clearer

Follow the general manager and coach: Thursday might have marked the seminal moment of the Browns? draft evaluation process.
Faced with a conflict in pro day workouts, GM Tom Heckert and coach Pat Shurmur could have broken up and split duty between Texas A&M quarterback Ryan Tannehill and Alabama running back Trent Richardson.
Instead, they chose to double-team the Richardson workout.
They would probably say that logistics played a big part in their choice. Tuscaloosa, Ala., is a lot closer to Palm Beach, Fla, where the team?s top two football executives had spent the week attending NFL owners meetings. But I think there?s more to it than that.
Of all the offensive players attached to the Browns with the No. 4 pick in the draft, Richardson probably has been the least talked about.
Asked directly if Richardson is under consideration for the No. 4 pick, Shurmur said this week at NFL meetings, ?I?m not going to talk about my five guys (in the running). He is an outstanding player ? he?s been very productive on a team that?s won a lot of games.?
In a different context, Shurmur was asked what a pain it was last season to not be able to practice with his starting running back from week to week and sometimes not even know which back would start until game time.
?You need not remind me,? he replied. ?But I do know that?s a critical position, and the quarterback has to have confidence that he can turn around and hand the ball off and get yards, or drop back and know (the back?s) going to protect properly, or drop back and throw it to him. That?s an important confidence to have.?
Colt McCoy didn?t have that confidence last season. And if the Browns are determined to surround him with better pieces on offense, Shurmur just made a strong case in the above paragraph that the best running back in the draft ? Richardson ? is the best selection at No. 4.
