Cleveland Browns (2011 season)

I would love to pick up Pierre Garcon

You like receivers that can't catch the ball? Garcon makes the unreal catches and drops the everyday pass that hits him in the hands.....

FWIW if you like Colts receivers, I bet Gonzalez is available and possibly Wayne

Here are a few points from Mike Holmgren, via Browns Daily, and what we make of them.

Looks like Steinbach is history. Must be his back.

? ?Pinkston is a rookie. Lauvao ? in effect, this is his rookie year. ? Who would be effected most by the loss of an offseason program? I would say the offensive line.
?(Line coach) George Warhop does do a great job ? It all looks nice on paper until things start flying around hot and heavy.?
A lot of you want something done about the offensive line. We would guess at this point that Steinbach is not coming back. We would guess that the line next year will be Thomas, Pinkston, Mack, Lauvao and a new right tackle.?

Jesus H, Pinkston and Lavauo as starting guards=failboat. They need to pick up someone that can block if Steinbach isn't coming back so that the two of them can compete for the other spot, or Pinkston can move back to tackle, or something. 2 shitty guards = shitty running game.

So, after today's debacle, I was having a little conversation with a buddy on what an unmitigated horse abortion this franchise has been since it came back. He brought up a point that is truly astounding, and surrounded by the utter malaise that is the rest of this joke of a franchise, probably goes somewhat unnoticed:

Who would you say has been the clowns best skill position offensive player since they came back?

I was speechless. I am utterly unable to think of one guy other than several one year wonders.

QB: an total disgrace. Couch, Holcombe, Garcia, Dilfer, Anderson, Quinn, McCoy. If I forgot anyone, don't remind me. DA had the one good year in 2007 against the nfl's weakest schedule then fell flat on his face.

RB: A couple one year wonders like Green, Suggs, Droughns, Hillis...but no sustained success. Lewis was really good in '07, decent in '08, then disappeared.

WR/TE: Stonehands had a terrific year in '07, but was mediocre aside from that. Winslow was okay, nothing special. Just a horrific run here.

So yeah...that pretty much tells the story. How is this even possible. Not one guy that you can look at and say "yeah, he was pretty good for a while". [censored] this franchise.

Josh Cribbs is a special teams ace.

At least he was. He hasn't been that great this year, although he's surrounded with crap. This whole team is crap.

Yeah, but, key word there is special teams. We were talking every down skill position players...QB, RB, WR, TE...it's a damn joke. It actually takes effort to fail as badly as they have. :!

Somewhat of a surprise

In a move Tuesday that was not a surprise but stunning nonetheless, the Browns waived two-time Pro Bowl long snapper Ryan Pontbriand. He had been with the Browns since Butch Davis selected him in the fifth round of the 2003 draft.

The new guy is Christian Yount, who latched on to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as an undrafted rookie just before the start of training camp. He was waived on Oct. 25 when Andrew Economos, the Buccaneers? regular long snapper, returned from injury.

?Today, I lost a long-time teammate,? kicker Phil Dawson said in a tweet. ?He has been with me more than any teammate I have had. I will miss him. He was the best.?

The Browns also placed linebacker Scott Fujita (hand) and defensive end Emmanuel Stephens (pectoral) on injured reserve Tuesday and promoted linebacker Benjamin Jacobs and defensive tackle Brian Sanford from the practice squad to the 53-man roster.
