Cleveland Browns (2011 season)

Still, very few talented players. And I'll take talent at the end of the day. Too many people are comfortable with the amount of talent on this roster, and the decisions made over the last 2 years.

I don't get it.

I don't know anyone that is comfortable with the talent level, and over the last two years the coaching staff and schemes have completely changed. Any time this happens its going to take time to get the roster where you want it to be. It was not shown today but I think the roster is heading in the correct direction.

I guess I meant the roster decisions and the determinations this management team has taken. Phil Taylor, not getting Colt a #1 receiver, no legit pass-rushing DE, no great #2 RB, etc...

It all leads to an awful 2011....although I still think there is room to deceive the masses based on our horrendous schedule strength.

I think the Taylor pick needs time. He's had moments where he seriously disrupts plays. Did you see Vick acknowledge him after the game against Philly? That wasn't just because he's a fan - Mike got serious pressure from him when he was on the line and knew he could have hurt him a couple instances.

I'll with-hold comment on the #1 WR until I see Greg Little more. (Blackmon looks so damn great though)

Sheard is another who has had his moments. He could very well be a solid pass rusher. However we have two DE's who give up ground in the run game now as opposed to have a traditional NT/DG & LDE/RDE. Hardesty could be a solid #2. I do agree though, I wanted Demarco Murray or Da'rel Scott.

That said. This front office is also responsible for Haden (whom many of us were skeptical) Ward, Lavauo, getting Hillis while raping Denver & Atlanta for picks in the process. They've done OK thus far.

It's more talent then we've had in some time. Take away these injuries and I personally believe we could be looking at a different outcome. Steinbach & Pashos were/are huge to this teams success. Losing Jackson didn't help either.

Let's see how the season shapes up. I"m a little upset we didn't address anything in FA. But we have a boat load of picks for the draft. We still have holes to fill. But at least we have an office that can identify talent.

I'm going by tape on Taylor. His draft tape was the definition of average. But I guess he wowed the Browns in Mobile, AL...fair enough.

Hardesty shouldn't be counted on when he has no knee cartiledge.

Greg Little as a #1 receiver is beyond concerning. Not because of his game, but mostly based on his character. The guy was a clown at UNC, and his showboating while essentially tackling Josh Cribbs on a break-away to the endzone did little to move me off that opinion.

Haden was the only pick to take at #7 his draft year as well, so I have trouble giving much credit there. Ward in the second round was a solid pick, although I still think Kurt Coleman was a better value and someone I think will be better long-term in the NFL. I only bring this up, b/c I said the same on draft day when I thought they reached on Ward.

And Colt McCoy was sheer luck he reached them. And the fact that he has so little around him this year, makes him a good scape-goat if the season goes bad and management needs to point fingers. I'm really concerned for his future if the Browns get off to a rough start...but his best option in the passing game right now is either Ben Watson or Evan Moore which is truly embarrassing.

Well we've seen NFL plays. So we can take the tape a step further. I agree about him being average on tape at Baylor. I said the same thing myself in the Browns thread on draft day. (Pretty sure I linked a couple games too)

Again, he's had his moments and I see him being doubled teamed on a regular basis. That's why he's there.

Agreed. I wasn't thrilled about the pick last year.

physically he's got it. Up top - spot on. He's a bit of a talker. That shit needs to get under control. I think he lost his head a bit on the tackle. In all honesty I saw that as a 50/50 play. His idea was spot on, but bad timing. Had Cribbs not made that small stutter step inward the field he would have ran by Little as he killed the punter. Sadly it was just bad timing.

I wanted Kurt instead of Ward too. I can't complain too much though. Ward was limited in coverage when we got him. They knew that. Some deficiencies showed today. A trade down was still possible before Haden. Remember we called KC to get Berry with no answer. The fact is the Browns brought him in and worked him out. Did their homework. Liked what they saw & felt confident in their pick. I'll give them that.

Colt was a combination of blind luck and insight. When we passed on him in the 2nd round, Holmgren didn't seem to blink. So how Cleveland landed him is something I just try not to think about

Nothing wrong with a TE being a favorite target. See: Witten, Davis, Gonzales & Clark. Yes though, our WR's are a problem.

I am finally losing patience. I was 7 years old when my beloved Brownies won their last championship. Like most of us I suffered through redright88, the drive, the fumble (in person), satan Modell's move, and so on. After that first quarter, the organization should refund the ticket price for every person brave or stupid enough to sit through that freaking goat rodeo, and publically apologize for our suffering. Aaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrgggggggg! :pissed:

Lucky you. At least you saw a championship. When I was 7 years old, Earnest Byner was coughing up the football. :(

The thing that really frosts me about yesterday's fiasco is how good it made Mangini look. Yes, the offense sucked, but they had discipline...they came out yesterday and for the first 15 minutes it looked like they had never seen a football field before. $1000 water bottle fines are the stuff of legend, but at least the team knew the snap count. This looks like Crennel's MO all over again...

Glad I'm not the only one who was thinking this. I caught myself thinking in the first quarter, I wonder if this would be happening if Mangini was still at the helm. Yes this is only Shurmer's first real game but when we kept racking up the penalties I was thinking oh somewhere Eric Mangini is laughing at us. While the commentators were talking about the West Coast offense being a way of life (WTF) and Shurmer is just a cool headed guy with regards to the penalties.

I remember a month or so ago during one of the first few training camps the Plain Dealer took a few veiled swipes at Mangini by saying there were no players running laps for mistakes or no blaring music to simulate distractions/game noise.
They also said this regime doesn't focus as much on special teams like the last coaching staff did....and it showed.

With that being said, I'm still very excited for the future. Offense and Defense are still very young and both sides had to learn new schemes in a short amount of time with no OTA's either and I think that showed this weekend.

Still, there really is no reason for losing this way to the Bengals.
