Cleveland Browns (2011 season)

I would love to think this is good news, but you all do realize there's chance that the Redskins overpay out the wazzoo for the #3 pick, the the Browns genius trust decides to do the same (and actually worse) for the #2 pick to get RGIII instead...

I have a little confidence in the H&H duo when it comes to the draft...the Hardesty pick is still out but I think they have done a decent job and haven't overreached. When it comes to QB's it is going to be Holmgren making the call and I can't see him picking RG3 at that spot.

Well, if they overpay out the wazoo... and go to #2 (I'm not sure how they are making a deal with TB at 5, though, it may be complicated). Anyway, point is, I think if they do go to #2 and overpay to to do it... The Rams could be back into it with the Skins pick to get back to 4 and take Kalil. Theoretically anyway... so, ain't over I guess, and RGIII would be off the board.

It would surprise me if the Redskins jump to #2... it's not like they are a QB away from being decent... and RG III would be the Archie Manning/Tim Couch of 2012... a crumpled heap week after week... plus what could they offer other than #6... hand the Rams the roster and say "take anybody but Fletcher"

But what bothers me is that the Vikings are going to entertain offers as well.. I'd take RG and trade Ponder... but the Vikes need lots of help too.. so they could be amenable to deals

Ex-Vikings coach Brad Childress has emerged as the favorite for the Browns offensive coordinator position, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Head coach Pat Shurmur says calling plays is the "fun" part of running the team, but he's promised to forfeit those duties if he finds a coordinator who can do a better job. Based on Childress' play-calling track record in Minnesota, we're skeptical that he's an upgrade on Shurmur. The Browns' top two choices were Childress and Mike Sherman, who is expected to get the Dolphins job.

Former NFL scout suggests Matt Flynn might be the Cleveland Browns' best QB option: Terry Pluto

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Dan Shonka has a theory about the Browns, and it starts with Matt Flynn.
The former scout for three NFL teams now runs Ourlads.com, which handicaps the draft each year. Shonka has quarterbacks Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III rated as the top two players in the draft -- and he believes they are likely to be the first two picks, with someone trading up with St. Louis to grab Griffin.
So where does that leave the Browns?
"Let's start with the fact that I think RG III has played almost all of his career in the [shot]gun," said Shonka. "But he's a rare individual. He can learn to take snaps under center. He has the intelligence and ability to learn any system. He's an excellent athlete, he has great feet. I think he could learn the West Coast offense."
But Shonka believes Griffin will be so attractive that the Rams will pull a huge deal for their No. 2 pick. It won't be with the Browns.
"They need too many players," he said.
So what will the Browns do?

Cont...

IMO this is still the ideal route to go...getting flynn and then being able to draft blackmon or someone else at #4 while keeping all our picks...BUT...im hesitant to say Flynn will be the better QB then RGIII overall...I still dont care what half you people say i still think RGIII would be a great pick for the browns at #4

Don Banks' mock draft:

Has the clowns trading up (giving up the ATL 1) with STL for RGIII.

Dan Snyder will outbid the Browns for RG III so any mock that has us taking him does not bother me. I know that we have 2 draft picks that the Redskins do not have but Snyder will come up with something.

Glad to see that the Browns are going away from the Holmgren tree with their assistant coaches. Always nice to get some fresh ideas:crazy:

Childress it is

Browns hired ex-Vikings head coach Brad Childress as offensive coordinator.

Childress is a surface fit in Cleveland because of his West Coast offense background, but there's a lot to not like about this hire. Out of the league since his in-season firing in 2010, Childress' Vikings offenses from 2006 through 2010 ranked 23rd, 13th, 17th, fifth (Brett Favre year), and 23rd in terms of yards. In points, they were 26th, 15th, 12th, second (Favre), and 29th. Toward the end of Childress' Minnesota tenure, there was a feeling that the game had passed him by. Talent remains the roadblock standing in the way of Cleveland's offensive advancement. They need a new quarterback.

He was a disaster in Minnesota...he'll fit right in here :slappy:

Jesus, all we need to do is give up 3 future unprotected first rounders to outbid Washington for RGIII and this franchise will officially be at the top of the list for the move to LA that someone is going to make.
