Cleveland Browns (2010 season)

Browns could be caught in a vise at No. 7 | ProFootballTalk.com

So that's why the Browns are exploring a move in either direction. The problem will be to find someone else who wants to use the seventh pick on a player who may not justify the financial investment, given that the team that uses the selection will be faced with the slot-busting Darrius Heyward-Bey contract as a starting point.

Here is an interesting proposition for everyone:

If Berry is at 7 do you take him or the Eagles just called and offered their 1st (24th), 2nd (37) , and a 4th (105). What do you do?

i would take berry...we just traded half our team for more draft picks...trading down that far is not sending a good sign to the fans of cleveland to come root for the team this year...need something to put the fans in the seats....i know i would be less likely to go if we dont get a berry or impact player high in the first round...that offer is very intriguing tho...i wouldnt make it but i could see holmgren making it

Good question. Personally, I'm pretty high on Berry, but I would have no problem with them making the trade. I think this draft is deep enough and the Browns have a lot of holes to fill, so they could really do some damage with the 24th, 37th, and 38th picks. I'd like to see them take a chance on Colt McCoy in the 2nd, and I'd be even more okay with it if they had two 2nd round picks.

It depends if you think Berry is worth making the highest paid safety in the league without playing a down. Unfortunately that's just the way things go due to the slotting pay scale.

I wouldn't dismiss the offer, but I would counter by telling them they have to throw in one of their 3rds as well.

I like Berry a lot, but this is supposed to be a deep draft and the Browns have a lot more needs than just him. If this draft is truly as deep as they say, then it would seem to follow that early second round picks are as useful as a late first round pick in most drafts. If the Browns made this trade they would essentially have what I'd consider to be the value of three first round picks on their hands in picks number 24, 37 and 39. That could go a long way toward improving this team.

Tell them you have enough picks, you don't have enough elite safeties.

since everyone is on the bandwagon the chances of us landing berry or mccoy are now at 2%...the browns never do what anyone wants...not saying this is what you wanted but here is my list

2009 - Alex Mack (i wanted Maleluga who we passed up twice)
2008 - none
2007 - Joe Thomas (Adrian Peterson)
2006 - Kam Wimbley (Antonio Cromartie)
2005 - Braylon Edwards (I did want Edwards)

What was wrong with the Joe Thomas pick? At the time of the pick, the Browns needed an offensive line more than a RB....

I liked the Thomas pick then, and I like it in hindsight. Adrian Peterson's value would be lost on this team, especially if it didn't have Joe Thomas. Hell, Peterson wasn't all that great last year when the Vikings run blocking started to deteriorate and he started coughing up the ball everywhere.

Peterson averaged less than 4.0 YPC in 10 of his 18 games last season. 4 of the 8 games where he exceeded that mark were against the likes of DET, CLE & STL. He only managed to go for 4.0 YPC or more twice in seven games against playoff teams (BAL and NO).

nothing i think its the safest and best pick we've had since 1999...but that doesnt mean i didnt want peterson over thomas...i was merely putting who i wanted the browns to draft...not saying it was the best pick

...and thank god the Browns stuck with Mack.

AP wouldn't have done a damn thing behind the makeshift Oline we would have produced that year without Thomas.

Can't disagree here.
