The signing that baffles me is Pashos. He was a late draft pick of the Ravens, who didn't hang on to him. Went on to Jacksonville, where he didn't play well. Then on to SF last year, where he broke his shoulder, and we give him 10MM over 3 years?

It's a lean year for UFA's. Pashos fits the Mangini mold of a physical tough point of attack player. He can play OT or G. I think it's a slight upgrade over St. Clair. The pickings aren't the best in this years un capped class.

Watson could help alleviate the disaster that was pretending Robert Royal was anything more than a blocking TE. He's a solid player...not sure he's worth that money, but he's better than many.

I don't understand the contract at all. A lot of money for a TE...especially with the way Evan Moore played last year. Unless they think he was a flash in the pan, I don't understand a major contract to a TE. I can understand bringing in a blocking TE for less money, but you already have a playmaker at TE in Moore. Again, maybe they aren't convinced Moore is the player he looked like in the last several games of the season...

They can go doubles like they did with Heiden sometimes, they can use Watson in passing situations by lining him up in the slot...I think they look at it like this team has zero established playmakers in the passing game, so this gives them some options while guys like Mass, Robo and Moore come along, and he's still cheaper and less of a prima donna than a big-time WR (like a TO) would be. I think it's too much to pay, but if he contributes like he should, it will be worth it so the QB isn't getting killed every other down with no one to throw to over the middle.

After the first year where all $ 6M is guaranteed, it will only cost them 3M each year after (non guaranteed). This is a smart move financially with no salary cap. He wont hurt them in later years either. Best FA TE. A position of need.

Agreed on all points. As said before this is a major upgrade compared to the talent level on the Browns. Not to mention, NFL contracts are easy to get out of.
