Cleveland Browns (2007 & prior)

OH10;976775; said:
No, Cleveland. Cincy fans have always been obsessed with Cleveland. They're jealous of the popularity of the Browns. Ever since '95, they've been jealous of the success and popularity of the Indians. And they're jealous because Cleveland has an NBA team, whereas Cincy only has the lowly Bearcats.

I remember going to a Browns-Bengals game about 4 years back at Paul Brown Stadium. Bengal fans had all of these printed t-shirts saying "Cleveland Sucks, Couch swallows" or other variations of the same tune. (ala Ohio State w/ Michigan). They even had towels that said "Cleveland Sucks." You never find that in Cleveland, unless it's in reference to Pittsburgh. (which in of itself is an example of inferiority complex).

No true, I believe Cleveland did the same sort of things towards detroit. The pistons are the only team outside of Ohio I root for (other than BYU as i am a Mormon, and the Air Force academy , since I am active duty AF). The words thrown my direction and the taunts were uncalled for as i attended an Indians game (in indians gear) on June 1st in responce to being a Pistons fans. Cleveland fans can be just as crude and sometimes even nastier to the fans of the other teams.

I grew up a Buckeye and Indians/Browns fan, but worked for the owner of the Pistons as did my dad. I dont care who anyone roots for, I may give someone a hard time about thier thier team but never make personal threats or insults towards them. I even got into an arguement with a buckeyes fan who pretty much cursed me out for being a Pistons fan and completely berated the Pistons calling them an awful team (in not so nice terms) all the while saying how great the cavs were. He didnt seem to care that after beating us they were swept. I think people just need to learn to be more respectful of other individuals and not make personal attacks for differences in opinion

QB Frye sees positive in abrupt trade from Browns

Cleveland's Week 1 starter says he has fewer distractions as Seattle's reserve QB.

By Gregg Bell
Associated Press

Thursday, November 01, 2007

KIRKLAND, Wash. ? For Charlie Frye, Cleveland really does rock.
Not just because he grew up in nearby Willard, Ohio, and played college football at Akron. And certainly not because the Browns benched him in their opening game this season and then two days later gave him away to Seattle for a sixth-round draft choice. It was the most sudden dumping of a starting quarterback the modern NFL has seen.

Browns try not to look at stats Anderson's numbers aren't as important as win-loss column
By Marla Ridenour Beacon Journal sportswriter
Published on Thursday, Nov 01, 2007
BEREA: Derek Anderson was probably not being evasive, just being himself.
He also might not have wanted to go where the question Wednesday was taking him. Just a few minutes earlier, Browns coach Romeo Crennel had declined the same trip down memory lane, to the trade of starting quarterback Charlie Frye two days after a 34-7 season-opening loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Seattle Seahawks' defender Brian Russell puts on a happy face for return visit against Cleveland Browns

Thursday, November 01, 2007Tony Grossi
Plain Dealer Reporter
It was about a year ago when Braylon Edwards called out Brian Russell -- his teammate -- for what he considered a vicious, late hit on Cincinnati receiver Chad Johnson in a previous game.
That same day, Edwards ranted about the Browns' play-calling inside the red zone.
Frustration inside Edwards boiled over on the field a few days later. He barked at Charlie Frye and yanked his shoulder pad when the quarterback ignored him. Edwards later said he was complaining about Frye's pass protection.

Cleveland Browns place nose tackle Ted Washington on injured reserve

Thursday, November 01, 2007

The Browns placed nose tackle Ted Washington on injured reserve with a left knee injury and claimed defensive back Ricardo Colclough off waivers from Pittsburgh on Wednesday.
Washington, a 17th-year pro, was inactive two of the past three games and played sparingly against Miami on Oct. 14.
"Ted has been working through some knee issues that finally have caught up to him," said coach Romeo Crennel in a release. "We appreciate his effort to this point and know he will continue to help us any way he can going forward."

For Charlie Frye, Cleveland Browns' actions are not all surprising

Thursday, November 01, 2007Mary Kay Cabot
Plain Dealer Reporter
Former Browns quarterback Charlie Frye, who will return Sunday with the Seahawks, lamented the quick hook he got from the Browns after the opener.
"I don't think anyone realized that rope was going to be that short," Frye told the Associated Press. "But that's the way it went down."
Frye declined to participate on the conference call with Browns media Wednesday but talked to the AP in Seattle on Tuesday. He said being traded there for a sixth-round pick two days after losing, 34-7, to Pittsburgh was premature.

Anderson deals with issues
Thursday, November 1, 2007
Steve Doerschuk
Repository sports writer

Seattle Seahawks backup quarterback and former Browns starter Charlie Frye declined a conference-call invitation with media covering the Browns. But Browns quarterback Derek Anderson touched on some key points before Wednesday?s practice:

Issue Frye started three preseason games and the season opener, giving him a serious look at Offensive Coordinator Rob Chudzinski?s playbook. Now, he?s telling the Seahawks all about it.

Edwards to pay for child?s funeral
Thursday, November 1, 2007
TODD PORTER

BEREA Tara Douglas can rest her mind a little bit. The mother of 15-year-old Denzel Douglas, the heart transplant patient who met Braylon Edwards two weeks ago and died last Friday, will be able to give her son a proper funeral.

Because the Cleveland Browns wide receiver stepped in.

Edwards, who was touched by the family and particularly Denzel, is paying for the entire cost of the teenager?s funeral Friday.

BROWNS: Russell likes Romeo?s way
Thursday, November 1, 2007
By Steve Doerschuk
Repository sports writer

BEREA It?s not that Brian Russell turned the Browns into the 1985 Bears.

It?s just that Russell, in retrospect, appears to have been a strength of the 2005 and 2006 Browns defenses.

Without him calling out signals and breaking up deep throws, the Browns are last in the league in allowing 410.1 yards a game. They have given up 18 touchdown passes.

BROWNS NOTEBOOK
Thursday, November 1, 2007
STEVE DOERSCHUK

They meet again

Seahawks safety Brian Russell didn?t see the Charlie Frye trade coming.

?It was a shock,? Russell said of the Sept. 12 deal that sent Frye to Seattle. ?One day, I?m watching him on ESPN in a Browns uniform. The next, he?s two lockers down from me in Seattle.?

Russell said Frye has come to accept Seattle as a livable situation.

?Matt Hasselbeck is a very willing mentor,? Russell said.

QBs coach Jim Zorn is in the Seahawks? Ring of Honor based on his playing career.

Frye comes home as a backup
JEFF SCHUDEL, Morning Journal Writer
11/01/2007

BEREA -- Charlie Frye grew up a huge Browns fan with a poster of Bernie Kosar on his wall, and then in 2005 got the chance to live out his dream of playing for his favorite team when the Browns drafted him.

The dream was shattered on Sept. 9 when Frye was traded to Seattle two days after losing the opener and his starting job to Derek Anderson. Now, in an ironic twist, Frye can hurt the Browns' quest for the playoffs by telling the Seahawks things about the Browns offense that might not show up in Seattle's film study. The Browns and Seahawks play at 4 p.m. Sunday in Cleveland Browns Stadium.

Washington's season, maybe career, is over
JEFF SCHUDEL, Morning Journal Writer
11/01/2007

BEREA -- Ted Washington's career in the National Football League has apparently come to an inglorious end.

The Browns yesterday put Washington on injured reserve and claimed defensive back Ricardo Colclough on waivers from the Pittsburgh Steelers. Colclough is a special teams player. A second-round draft choice from Tusculum College in 2004, Colclough has played in 33 games plus six in the postseason. He has never started one. He played in three games this season with one special teams tackle. He played in three games last season with two tackles.

Seahawks offense poised to take flight

Thursday, November 1, 2007 3:51 AM
By James Walker

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

BEREA, Ohio -- The Seattle Seahawks do not boast the potent offense of two years ago, but when a defense gives up 410 yards per game as Cleveland's does, every team is a serious threat.
The Seahawks, Sunday's opponent in Cleveland Browns Stadium, advanced to Super Bowl XL with one of the most formidable offenses in the NFL. This year, they are averaging just 19.7 points.
They have All-Pro talent in running back Shaun Alexander and quarterback Matt Hasselbeck, but Alexander is playing with a broken hand and has just 460 yards and two touchdowns. He hasn't looked like the runner who broke the season touchdown mark with 28 in 2005.

SLOPPY SECONDS :)

BROWNS CLAIM COLCLOUGH
The Steelers recently cut cornerback Ricardo Colclough, a second-round pick in the 2004 draft.
The Browns made a waivers claim on Colclough, and were awarded his rights.
The fact that the Browns secured Colclough means that no one beneath them on the pecking order (determined primarily by overall record) made a claim.
Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports that the Panthers also made a claim for Colclough.
Having Colclough around comes in handy, since the Browns play the Steelers on November 11. And, by the way, the Browns are currently only a game behind their neighbors to the southeast.
To clear a spot for Colclough, the Browns placed nose tackle Ted Washington on injured reserve.
