Edwards' error of enthusiasm can't erase another big game, says Bud Shaw

Monday, October 29, 2007Bud Shaw
Plain Dealer Columnist
St. Louis
-- The Browns haven't had a player quite like Braylon Edwards since . . . no . . . be nice now . . . not Dwayne Rudd.
"I remember that play," Edwards said of the helmet removal that cost the Browns the 2002 opener against Kansas City.

Browns' Edwards dedicates game to teen who died

Monday, October 29, 2007

St. Louis -- Braylon Edwards caught his first of two touchdown passes Sunday and promptly dunked the ball over the goalpost. His great regret was that 15-year-old Denzel Douglas didn't live long enough to watch him do it.
"My performance today was dedicated to him and his family," Edwards said of the Lakewood High sophomore who died Friday. "I'm glad we got a win. My prayers go out to his family."
Douglas received a heart transplant in July 2006. His family admitted him to the hospital Oct. 14. Two days later, Edwards visited Douglas in the hospital and brought him a signed jersey and football.

Cleveland Browns quarterback Derek Anderson second in NFL in touchdown passes

Monday, October 29, 2007Mary Kay Cabot
Plain Dealer Reporter
St. Louis- The Moose from Scappoose is definitely on the loose. Browns quarterback Derek Anderson, the big, gangly kid from the tiny town of Scappoose, Ore., is raising eyebrows all over the NFL.
For the second week in a row, Anderson threw for three touchdowns and no interceptions - for 17 TDs and eight interceptions on the season. The 17 TDs are second in the NFL behind Patriots QB Tom Brady's 30.
He also had almost identical stats for two games in a row. He completed 18 of 25 attempts both weeks, for 248 yards against the Rams and 245 against the Dolphins. He earned a 142.5 passer rating in the previous game and a 143 this week to climb from 89.0 to 95.5.

Defense stops Rams' charge on a final pass

Secondary picks fine time to shine
Monday, October 29, 2007Mary Kay Cabot
Plain Dealer Reporter
St. Louis- Browns cornerback Leigh Bodden and safety Sean Jones both atoned for their sins in time to make the two plays that sealed the Browns' 27-20 victory over the Rams.
Jones had been under fire during the bye week for giving up numerous passes to tight ends. He made up for it against the Rams by grabbing the leg of running back Brian Leonard on fourth-and-1 at the Browns' 16 with two minutes remaining and holding on for dear life to stop him for no gain.
"Oh man, that was a huge play by Sean," said Bodden.

Rally allows Browns climb to winning record at 4-3
Monday, October 29, 2007
By STEVE DOERSCHUK

ST. LOUIS A road win. A winning streak. A winning record. The Cleveland Browns?

The temptation after Sunday?s 27-20 win was to ask Romeo Crennel if he?s going charter jet or stretch limo to Disney World.

?We kind of needed it,? Crennel said, meaning the win, not the junket.

Edwards is hero to grieving mom, her departed son
Monday, October 29, 2007
By TODD PORTER

ST. LOUIS

Sometimes in the middle of life and football, between touchdown passes and heartbreaking losses, our heroes really do become our heroes.

Braylon Edwards looked like a guy who jumps over tall NFL cornerbacks' backs in a single bound, toes the sideline like he is some kind of high-wire act, catches passes like he has eyes in the back of his head, and for a few hours, made a grieving mother smile.

Animated Anderson adds to awesome stats
Monday, October 29, 2007
By STEVE DOERSCHUK

ST. LOUIS In interviews, Derek Anderson is as animated as Bill Belichick. You want to check his pulse.

In the final seconds of Sunday's 27-20 win over the Rams, Anderson was wired out of his gourd.

It was torture for Cleveland's quarterback to watch the sequence after Braylon Edwards missed what looked like an easy catch that would have iced the game with 100 seconds left.

Unexpected difference maker
Monday, October 29, 2007

A player who had an unexpected impact on Sunday's game

Jason Wright, 25-year-old backup running back and special teams player.

The background Wright entered the NFL undrafted out of Northwestern in 2004 and was cut by the 49ers and Falcons. He stuck with the Browns, an ultimate effort type who adds maturity to the locker room and plays smart.

THEY WON IT HERE
Monday, October 29, 2007

After fighting back to even at halftime, the Browns had a whole new half to put away the hapless, and winless, St. Louis Rams. The Browns took the opening kickoff of the third quarter and proceeded to trip over their own feet. Joe Jurevicius was caught for an illegal block, but it was no problem. Derek Anderson drilled a pass to Jurevicius on third-and-17 like the Browns have never seen before. That covered 24 yards and a first down. Then Cleveland had consecutive false start penalties, so first-and-20 looked them in the eye.

Edwards' big season continues with 2 TDs
Monday, October 29, 2007
By Todd Porter
REPOSITORY SPORTS WRITER

ST. LOUIS The Browns have a new play for Braylon Edwards. Unofficially, it's called "Hey, big fella, go up and get it."

Throw the ball up, and let Edwards use his 6-foot-3, 215-pound body to snag the ball away from whomever is guarding him. It worked to perfection Sunday during a 27-20 come-from-behind win against the winless Rams at Edward Jones Dome.

Browns finally win back-to-back games with a dramatic victory in St. Louis
By: JEFF SCHUDEL, Morning Journal Writer
10/29/2007

ST. LOUIS - The roar erupting from inside the Browns locker room late yesterday afternoon came loud and clear through the walls inside the Edward Jones Dome.

It was a roar that could mean only one thing - no practice today.
The reward of "See you Wednesday" from coach Romeo Crennel was not only for beating the Rams 27-20. The Browns won three games prior to yesterday and had to report to the complex in Berea each time.

Players were rewarded because, finally, they won back-to-back games in the same season for the first time in four years, ending 64 games of futility, to be exact.

Browns: Defense executes when called upon
Late stops seal Browns' second win in row
Monday, October 29, 2007 3:43 AM
By James Walker

ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- There are no guarantees in the NFL, even on fourth-and-inches against the NFL's worst defense. The St. Louis Rams learned that lesson when Cleveland safety Sean Jones made a key stop with less than two minutes remaining to help seal a 27-20 Browns win.

Browns notebook: TD tandem has own star quality

Monday, October 29, 2007 3:30 AM
By James Walker

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- It doesn't have the same ring as Brady to Moss or Manning to Harrison, but Derek Anderson to Braylon Edwards has quietly become one of the hottest tandems in the NFL. The Cleveland Browns quarterback-to-receiver connection is having a breakout season. Yesterday, the pair hooked up for two touchdown passes in a 27-20 victory over the St. Louis Rams.
