Jackson, invited on a tryout basis, was signed to a contract Tuesday. Moss, who had been signed after going undrafted, was waived.

Edwards serves up recipe for happiness

Drink milk every day, work hard, player says

By Jewell Cardwell

Cleveland Browns wide receiver Braylon Edwards certainly took advantage of his visit Tuesday to Nordonia Middle School in Northfield and made it a teachable moment.
The 6-foot-3, 212-pound, 24-year-old -- wearing his No. 17 Browns jersey atop a white shirt with French cuffs and frayed black jeans -- was at the school courtesy of 13-year-old Shelby Moore.

Some Browns info from SI.COM:

Brady Quinn showed up for his first day on the job with a neatly cropped haircut. He thanked Joe Theismann for pointing out that he needed one. A rumor already appeared on the Web site profootballtalk.com that Quinn might be thinking of dumping agent Tom Condon as a result of his free-fall on draft day to the No. 22 spot in the first round of the draft.

Browns coach Romeo Crennel assured incumbent left tackle Kevin Shaffer this week that it's his job to lose despite the Browns drafting Joe Thomas with the No. 3 overall pick. The Giants inquired about trading for Shaffer during the week, but reportedly balked at the Browns' asking price of a fourth-round draft pick.

I hope that's just to pacify him until they can find a taker for his sorry ass.

it's to keep him around long enough for joe thomas to get enough practice reps to be a starting LT, and to make sure Thomas isn't mauled by a bear or have some other stupid fate befall him.

Shaffer better start taking reps at RT now if he wants to be a starter.

I concur... I think even Shaffer will see that Thomas is better than him... but I also think Tucker will be back.. and will be fine... so Shaffer is not replacing Tucker either.. thus.. welcome Shaffer to right guard... your new home...

and the Browns line will go from the worst in the league to one of the better... plus if Bentley is back.. it could be one of the premier lines in the NFL...

If they get rid of Shaffer it's an 8 mill dollar cap hit. The Browns have given him 12 mill in guar money. His salary now is just a little over the minimum. They would be wise to keep him now for depth or play him at another position. The agent has already made a ton off this guy and should just keep quiet. This is more about bruised ego by the player, than anything else. That's why Romeo made the public comments he did. The obvious place for him is at RT, where Tucker is one mental breakdown away from being institutionalized. It's just a shame that Bentley got hurt, they could have a good line if he ever comes back.

Tucker has played RG in the past, with the Rams I believe. So, moving Shaffer to RT and Tucker to RG is a very viable scenario. Tucker isn't really fleet of foot anymore, so Shaffer can likely handle the edge rsuhers out there better.

I think they should keep Shaffer, just to have that much more added depth even though I think he would still end up being a starter at one of the positions. If they were to get rid of him they wouldn't be taking any cap it. Someone would trade for him and pick up his contract. There is no way they would cut him.

If they trade him, they still take the 8 mill salary cap hit. The trading team would only have to pick up the terms of his contract, which is in the $800 k range. Teams know Shaffer is more of a backup, or could play RT. He only played LT in Atlanta because they had a left handed QB. He never had to face the best pass rushers on the blindside. The Giants, who are desperate for a LT, wouldn't even give the Browns a 4th round draft choice for him. He can provide depth for the Browns or play another position. They have already lost the money, so I'd be in favor of keeping him.

Browns need 10 wins in '07 to be a success, Edwards says

Sunday, May 13, 2007Tony Grossi
Plain Dealer Reporter
The Browns have to win at least 10 games in 2007 for their season to be judged a success.
That's the opinion put forth by receiver Braylon Edwards on a national radio show last week.
The Browns have gone 6-10 and 4-12 in Edwards' two seasons since being drafted No. 3 overall by the club in 2005. His years coincided with the first two seasons for coach Romeo Crennel.
