Cleveland Browns (2007 & prior)

We're not talking about TEs. We're talking about Guards. Steinbach is a Guard.
And I already said I agree with them on the TE issue.

And steinback is a guard that should not be one of the highest paid in the league. He is good but not that good, he has regressed over the years since he has been with the team, again I am sure if he was in a area where they could have afforded him the bengals would have liked to keep him just to keep it as a cohesive unit. But for the money that was going to be thrown around and the room the bengals had under the cap no way they were or wanted to keep him.

Continuing to confuse normative and positive statements, I see.
You and king dance around the bush so much in arguments... you should be great friends.

The Browns need good linemen and unfortunately they are in a position that they have to over-pay to get good FAs.

i like quinn to the browns at three...i definitely dont think frye is the answer...but there are a lot of needs they could fill at that position: LT(thomas), QB[quinn or russell(though i doubt hes there)], RB(peterson), or even WR(johnson). cant go wrong with any of those in my opinion.

Did you see Quinn play behind those horrible ND offensive lines? The Browns line is no better, even with Steinbach.

Getting and paying a first round QB this year isn't the answer.

How so? care to explain yourself rather than throw out insults?

The article is a dig at the Browns and Steinbach. Nobody here is arguing they we "overpaid" for a Guard who isn't a franchise-level player to begin with. Or that Cinci had neither the cap room to meet that price nor the will. I'm sure they feel they can replace Steinbach through the draft and players already there.
My point is that the article and comments within are pretty pathetic and baseless. The entire tone of it is that Cleveland and Savage are bungling morons that don't have a clue how to run an NFL team.
They could have just said "We didn't feel the need to overpay for a Guard, and by our own scouting report he wasn't worth the kind of money he was seeking so we let him go to the market." Instead, they ranted about the ineptness of the Browns for signing a Guard and TE. And then end it with a cheapshot at Steinbach. Sour grapes if I ever saw 'em.

What cheap shot? The comment about steinnbach being arrested? it was the truth and if you read the article he said it laughing. I was a joke. Steinbach left the bengals on very good terms

And I think it is funny the comments that Lewis said, he said it in a joking matter. But I guess when it is close to the truth it stings a little bit.

:roll2: I'm sure it's all fun and games if you're a Bengal.
But to me, it sounds like sour grapes... and I'm the first to admit our front office blows, so no news there either.

Browns find some blocks to build line

By Terry Pluto

The first two free agents signed by the Browns were offensive linemen.
The Browns are trying; their priorities seem in order.
Hank Fraley isn't great, but the veteran center played all 16 games and graded as average most of the time, according to the Browns.
He should be a little better this season, simply because he's with the same team -- even if some of the players around him have changed.

Jamal Lewis to visit soon

Posted by Mary Kay Cabot March 06, 2007 23:25PM

Categories: Browns
Ravens free-agent running back Jamal Lewis will visit the Browns soon, the Baltimore Sun reported Tuesday night.
The Ravens have offered Lewis a one-year deal, but he won't accept it, his agent, Mitchell Frankel, told the Sun. As a result, Lewis has begun setting up visits, and Cleveland is expected to be his first stop.
That's significant because the majority of free agents have been signing with the first team they visit. It also could impact Reuben Droughns' future in Cleveland. Droughns is due a $1.75 million bonus next week, and if the Browns find a suitable replacement, there's a chance he could be gone.

If Lewis can stay healthy, then I wouldn't mind seeing this happen. Also, not sure, even if you do sign Lewis, that you don't want to take AP too. Lewis, AP, and Wright are all distinctly different backs, that could add a great deal of diversity to our previous all-fullback offense. Plus, injury issues with Lewis and AP might warrant adding as much quality depth as you can.
