Cleveland Browns (2007 & prior)

The sad part is there is no break in the clouds for the forseeable future. Aside from Wimbley, not one of all these high draft picks is performing to the level that is needed of them. Most have been outright busts, or fucking idiots. All the money spent on FA's last year seems to be for not (I'm still scratching my head on that Schaffer contract). There is no leader, a culture of losing, a revolving door at Head Coach/QB and no silver lining. Not to be overly pessimistic, but what franchise does this remind you of? Hint: Look about 300 miles south.

Good point. And the change in attitude was noticable almost immediately. Lewis turned that team around relatively quickly (8 and 8 in the first year if I remember right). Proving that it takes the right man and things can happen. I'm just not convinced that Romeo is that guy.

Several of the playes that we lost to Denver were inerviewed and asked why they have played so much better in Denver. They said there is a pissy attitude in Cleveland and that most of the team doesn't even care about winning. They talked about how contagious it was....

I think last year's draft turned out better than I expected. Near as I can tell (primarily stats -- not too many Browns games on in CO) Wimbley and Jackson are both contributing in big ways. Wilson in the 3rd and then sitting out almost the whole season has me wondering. But it seems Crennel can at least build our defense up.
It's horrible to say this, but I think if we can build a very good defense (which I think is possible under Crennel), a solid OL, and get a couple of decent RBs we could at least get a 6 or 7 win season out. I don't think he is a permanent solution, but throwing him out and then trying to find a great coach to do what is, right now, a nightmare job isn't going to do anything for us. Crennel can build on defense for a couple of years, and then we can take the next step.
Above anything, I think we need to draft a born leader type player. And Crennel needs to toughen up on these guys too.

All the smart ass BS aside, RC is not the problem, it's the attitude of the players. They don't give 100% and it shows, ALOT!!!

Nobody "believes" in the system because it isn't working, the problem is the system isn't working because nobody believes.

I know it's clique but it's the truth. Attitude is everything.

The attitude of this team sucks.

Hence, this team SUCKS!!!!

...and who is responsible for changing that? That would be the head coach. I don't dislike Romeo, but he's not the man for this job. This team needs a disciplinarian who will clean house and force a change in attitude. RAC was pretty much doomed from the start. Actually, I'm not so sure any coach who comes here isn't doomed.

As far as the draft...Joe Thomas or bust. The OL is an abomination, that's where rebuilding needs to begin. That sucks too, because I think Peterson is gonna be a stud. Problem is that if the Browns drafted him, I doubt he'd make it out of camp alive. There are no rushing yards to be had when your OL falls over if somebody breathes on them hard. Now the one good OL we have (Bentley) may not play next year either. This team is basically starting from scratch again eight years into its existence.

True, but what happened to Jackson? Right, he got hurt. We've all heard this song before. I'm honestly shocked that Wimbley has stayed healthy and emerged as a potential star. Well, definately suprised he escaped the "1st Round Jinx". Hopefully he can stay healthy, because he looks like a cornerstone.

Honestly aside from voodoo, how can so many players on one franchise continue to get injured? Strength and Conditioning?

I KNOW we need OL, but I don't think one guy is gonna change the situation. That being said, I hope we draft AP. He is a franchise player that will keep asses in the seats and can often make something out of nothing on the field.

I think we address the OL via free agency (again) and hope that Bentley is able to get healthy. Shit, maybe Isaac Sowells could even be developed into something. It would be nice if this team could actually develope a late round draft pick into something, much like Denver and Baltimore are able to do.

I'd really like to draft AP too, but doesn't his history of injuries before coming to the browns scare you? It does me. With our OL, he'd be in a coma with at least two limbs amputated by the second game of the preseason.

Yea, I know he's been hurt before, but fuck it. Even if he'd never had a hang nail before, anybody would surely lose a limb if they were drafted by the Browns...OL, RB, WR, DB, S, LB...it really doesn't matter. I'm surprised the coaches don't get in car accidents every day on the way to work just b/c they work for the Browns.

I'm just saying I think Crennel has showed he can draft well on defense.
The injuries are killing us, but we had this injury problem before Crennel too so I don't really know what to say.
At this point, I'm tempted to think some of them are malingering.
I think this team needs some leadership really bad, and even though that is Crennel's job, I don't see us getting that leadership if we fire him and hire another head coach.
