That first sentence I read really REALLY pissed me off, I didn't think anything like that could/would happen. Good things do happen (eventually) to good people. I am beyond elated to hear this.

Not much to update. What little there is doesn't offer much that's positive. The main goal of a SSDI claim, for me, was health insurance, the secondary goal was a small supplemental amount of money that would help sustain basic needs. In terms of the insurance, I found out a couple days ago that I won't have any for two years. Have to be in the system receiving checks for 24 months before that kicks in. Which ... well, I don't understand the practicality of this, although I do understand the cost effectiveness of it. I suppose it strikes me as more evidence that SSDI is seen and handled more like welfare or unemployment than a health-based concern, but that's neither here nor there. On the money issue, it's less and slower than I was told I can expect it to be, but it's something, and that (as the old cliche goes) is better than nothing.

The best news I have to offer is that SportsWar has been wonderful so far. We don't even have ads up yet, and they've already sent the first check. It's not much, but it will help pay the colocation fee this month, and that's a good thing as well. They seem to be a terrific group, and they've handled my displeasure with the whole notion of ads very well. Perfectly, actually, and I really do have a lot of confidence and comfort moving forward with them, which is a good thing. Having gone through some of the ugliest stuff the dot com implosion had to offer, I definitely went in a hostile and guarded partner, and they've handled it brilliantly.

Oh for sure, don't misunderstand, being approved was a positive step forward. Something is indeed better than nothing. I was naive to imagine the ability to go see docs in the short term, and disappointed to learn that there would be a 2 year wait before that happens through them -- but at least it's on the horizon, which I couldn't say before. In the meantime, I continue to look for my own solutions.

Someone I was emailing back and forth with some time ago suggested one possible solution was going to jail for their healthcare. I took that a step lower and suggested instead that I should run for some sort of political office and get it that way instead.

Anyway, I gripe about the system because it's not an "easy fix," but few things are. It is, in the end, positive even if it is flawed. Coupled with the SportsWar situation and some academic pursuits, 2006 figures to end better than it started, which is something I've been unable to say about a year since 1998.

That's a great thing.
