City Parks (Columbus or wherever)

One More...Then Forever
    • Just wondering if anyone used (regularly or not) any of the Columbus city parks.

    Part of the reason, aside from not having online capabilities, for my recent absence from BP is that I have been working roughly 50-60 hours a week. This summer, I built a park in New Concord as some of you know. More recently, I have been building a boardwalk at Hayden Falls. It is a Columbus City park on the northwest side near Tuttle Rd.

    The reason I started this thread is because I have lived in Newark most of my life (besides the year or so in GA) and I had never heard of Hayden Falls untill I worked there. It is a really cool place.


    Are there any other little known places like this in Columbus or the surrounding area?

    That's funny. I dug every hole on this job. There was something like 50+/- holes for the first phase of the boardwalk alone. Each hole is roughly 20" accross by about three feet deep. I found glass from bottles in every single one. Even three feet down. For the stairs that are currently under construction, one hole was 8' deep. Still, glass in the bottom. But from what I can tell, it isn't as bad as it was. Just a few cans of good ol' Natty Lite every once in a while. (not mine):biggrin:

    what did you use to dig them? excavator? backhoe?

    Never seen that spot, I'll have to check it out sometime. I do a fair amount of running on the Olentangy trail, which is pretty scenic for most of the northern part.

    I grew up near Brandywine falls, which is up by the Cleveland/Akron area in Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Worth seeing if you're in the area.

    The lack of rain hasn't completely dried up the pool at the base of Hayden Falls. Indian Village day camper Madison Morman, 11, of Westerville caught a crawdad in the pool during a field trip yesterday.

    Hayden Falls isn't -- falling, that is. The kids were crestfallen. They had come to watch the water cascade over the rock face into the pool 25 feet below.
    But a waterless waterfall doesn't leave much to behold.
    The disappearing Northwest Side waterfall is among several across Ohio that have dried up this summer.
    To the south, waterfalls sprinkled across the Hocking Hills are running on empty, as well.
