oustanding movie. I really don't like cheesy feel good movies, but this one truly is remarkable IMO. Also, if you have people who are squeamish about boxing, there isn't as much violence (in the fights) as I expected.

Not sure if it's true or not, but growing up, I was told that my grandmother (maiden name braddock) was related somehow to J.J. Before the movie came out, I only knew that he lost his title to Joe Louis (not sure how accurate that is). :)

It's odd that he held the title for 2 years before losing to Louis, but fought nothing but exhibitions between the title bouts against Baer and Louis.

And just for the Hell of it - Max Baer, Jr. was Jethro on The Beverly Hillbillies.

Its weird these days how a professional boxer might only fight 1, maybe two fights in one year. And very rarely 3 fights. But back in the day of Jack Dempsey and other fighters. They would sometime fight 3 times in a 10 day span. That didn't happen very often, most of the time they would have like 2-3 weeks to a month between fights. But still its just weird how much the sport has evolved.

It's not weird, it's about the benjamins.
When you get millions for 1 fight, you're not going to put yourself through that very often.
Most fighters still fight fairly frequently until they hit the big time and can command large purses per fight.
Mike tyson was fighting every 3-4 weeks or so as he came up through the ranks.
After Ali lost to Frazier in March of '71, he fought 7 times in a 12 month span from July '71 to July '72, plus a boatload of 3-5 round exhibitions.
And he typically fought once a month for the first few years of his pro career.
