Cincinnati Reds (2017 official thread of moose knuckle)

My guess is they'll look at Greene at pitcher first. They took another SS in the competitive balance portion of the draft after round 1. I don't know much about draft philosophies in baseball, though. Then again, I probably know as much as the Reds.

A drunk, blind chimp throwing darts at a board has as good or better chance of a good draft than the Reds.

I like Arroyo. Had some pretty good years for the Redlegs. Seems like a ok guy. But the fact that he got 1 start this year, let alone 14 is an abomination. I saw him pitch in spring training and I haven't played baseball since high school and I could have got in there and gone 2 for 4 with a double off him. I just assumed they were being nice to an ex player and maybe you get a miracle comeback. Nope.

Funny thing to me is how much I read and heard from RZ and the general Reds media about the pitching talent in the organization.

As in how much of it there is.

If some has been like OG Dirty hippie is getting 14 starts and the staff ERA is north of 6 then where the fuck are all of these pitchers they have been drafting in the first round and getting back in all these deals for guys like Cueto and Chapman?

Reds recent 1st Round Pitchers
2011: Robert Stephenson Demoted to AAA after putting up 61.2 IP at MLB level with a 6.86 ERA and 1.77 WHIP (total bust)
2012: Nick Travieso Last seen in AA, now injured, no stats for 2017 (bust)
2013: Michael Lorenzen Failed starter who has salvaged his career with a move to the pen where he has decent value (bust turned fungible bullpen asset)
2014: Nick Howard Still in fucking dayton with an MLB career ERA of 5.6 and WHIP of 1.9. I am going to go ahead and call this one a bust

Trades for pitching
Cueto to KC for Finnegan, Lamb and Reed. All 3 turned out to be total dog shit

Leake to SF for Keury Mella (who is currently getting ass hammered in AA)

Marlon Byrd to CWS for Stephen Johnson (getting Lucy'd in AAA to the tune of a 5+ ERA)

Chapman given to Yankees for a guy who fucking retired already and Rookie Davis, who probably should have.

Ohio professional sports folks. They are probably 30-40% of the reason this state is so crazy for Thee Ohio State Buckeyes.
