Cincinnati Bengals (Same Ole Bengals)

The biggest NFL veterans who could be cut in the 2020 offseason

Andy Dalton, QB, Bengals

Savings from cutting Dalton: $17.7 million

Dalton gave the Bengals nine seasons of mostly good, never great quarterbacking. Now he has no place on team ready to draft Heisman Trophy winner Joe Burrow with the No. 1 overall pick. Dalton’s career in tiger stripes is almost certainly over.

Even though Cincinnati will need a veteran quarterback to help ease Burrow’s presumptive transition from LSU to the NFL, it’s time for both sides to move on. The money saved by releasing the Pro Bowl quarterback can be spent acquiring weapons and bolstering the offensive line tasked with keeping Burrow’s jersey clean in 2020.

Over 9 seasons Dalton has pocketed over $83M, not bad for a second round pick. It's too bad the Bengals can't trade him for a draft choice (or 2); however, no GM in their right mind would offer even a deflated football for him considering he's under contract in 2020 for $17.5M, is a crappy starting QB, and knowing he will undoubtedly be released by the Bengals (i.e. could pick him up for fair market value as a free agent, etc.)

Let's hope that is the case.

From a non-Bengals fan: calling Dalton a Pro Bowl QB is just fucking stupid. They just hand those out with a purchase of a Coke, too?

Pro Bowl QB Derek Anderson...

And the OL was bolstered when that contract was given to Bobby Hart the wedding singer after he graded the worst OL on the planet. So yeah, that’s happening...

Would like to see the Bengals trade down a couple spots or so. Draft Isaiah Simmons or Okudah this season. Tank next season, draft Trevor Lawrence next year (feel his frame would hold up better on that offensive line).

That’s what I was ultimately hoping for this season with drafting Chase Young. Tank next year, get Lawrence. But I can’t be upset about drafting Burrow.
