Cincinnati Bengals (Same Ole Bengals)

I had to delete my post halfway in last night. So I'll just say it in plain terms. Awful, awful, awful, awful, awful pick. Did Zac Taylor promise Dabo a bj if he doesn't draft a Clemson player?

Mid-second round talent level player at the last position of need. Unless Anderson happened to be there, then picking a DE is just stupid for us even if Murphy is a freak athlete. Especially when Porter Jr, Branch, etc. are there. Unless Porter or Branch have a terminal illness, there's no excuse not picking one of them. Apparently we want torched in the secondary after losing our two best DBs. Hell, even Mayer at TE would have been great. Or the best OT available.

There are about 10-15 other picks I would have taken over Murphy, especially with Hubbard, Hendrickson, Ossai, Sample, Kareem on the roster. So I give our first pick an F-minus and if there was a worse score I would go with that.

Bengals got the #95 and #217 (Mr. Irrelevant?) in exchange for the #92 pick with the Chefs. They added an extra pick and still got the player they wanted. Not too bad.
Great for us honestly, especially since we got Battle. Turner and Battle were excellent picks. If we grab a TE and an OL today, I'll be happy.

There was a 0.0 chance of them taking Joey Porter Jr. I have seen some great praise for our first-round pick looking forward to him and Ossi tearing up QBs for years to come

Chase Brown was my favorite pick. Bengals continue to focus on speed. Lots of burners in this class.
The Myles Murphy pick grew on me. Going defense in the top 3 picks grew on me. Getting really solid CB, DE, and S depth is huge and Battle can push Scott for the starting job, and the Bengals aren’t wasting a ton of money allowing that with how cheap Scott was to sign. But I think my favorite pick is Andrei Iosivas. Big, athletic WR who had a monster RAS score. Track talent, and can probably play ST early. Very happy with that pick. On the flip, completely confused by the Purdue WR pick. Was the only reach in the draft, and wasn’t a necessity. Hope he can play in the slot.

Bengals seem to be drafting a year early, too. Like a cohesive plan. May not be able to resign Hendrickson after this season? Cool. We will draft a high motor DE a year early to cover it. May not be able to resign DB’s? Cool. Draft. Year early. Gives me hope for a Logan Wilson deal since no LB’s were drafted.
May not agree with the plan but they have one and they are executing it. Cannot be upset by that.

With Henrickson I worry about injury also. He has had some back issues that have not cost him to much playing time yet however with a DE once that becomes an issue they are often playing on borrowed time. Good to have someone in the building that can replace him if indeed he is out for awhile.

I wondered about Hendrickson and injuries, that was all I could surmise with the Murphy pick. Murphy is a talent and I am a big proponent on DL depth, it just seemed unnecessary with all the players we have at DE (including those behind our starters).

But after that pick, I thought we did pretty damn well. Love the Turner and Battle picks, definitely were needs and great value there. Chase Brown was a hell of a pick in the 5th round. I really like Charlie Jones even if it was a tad early to take him, could be the successor to Boyd in the slot and regardless I think he is a gamer. Altogether, I like this draft class a lot.
