Cincinnati Bengals (Same Ole Bengals)

Zach…sigh..u didn’t make 5 turnovers yourself I get that..but the head scratching decision of not challenging the chase catch for td. For snapping the ball with 15 left on the play clock in OT.. for not giving Volsen help..for asking Volsen to pull and try to block TJ watt.lol

Volsen…I know ur a rookie not gonna be harsh at all. But you coach let u down. Going against Hayward and he couldn’t block him.

Jonah…better step it up. Plenty of plays if burrow held it a second late we talking at least 3/4 sack/ sack fumbles possibly. Did not play like an elite left tackle..

Great game defense. Pittsburgh is ass on offense and they did more than enough to win this game. I know my defense is gonna keep us in games all year.

Aye Joe Burrow…2 high safety is what your gonna see all year just like our guy CJ stroud..stop forcing throws that aren’t there. Terrible game. OL on the left side wasn’t good at all but 4 picks especially on those 4 int I believe the line held up well on those. Missing Higgins hurt but damn.

Overall it’s one game but Dallas next week won’t be any easier. Better get they head straight. Our schedule isn’t gonna get any easier. Who Dey!

This was by far Taylor’s worst game calling plays.

For instance those two where Burrow pitched it to Mixon 10 yards behind the line of scrimmage after watching the Steelers D-line consistently getting push and filling gaps against our O-line.
Running inside zones every first down, not settling for FGs on 4th and 6 with 8 minutes, or on 4th and goal from the 2. Running a inside zone on first and goal of said drive I just mentioned, then running the play we ran on 3rd down when that should’ve been our first down play. I could go on for quite a while.

Bengals win this game even with the turnovers if Taylor isn't stupid. Punting with time on the play clock in OT is mind-numbing.

Should have challenged the Chase non-TD, too.

Doing either of those would have prevented an outright loss, at very least.

Granted, Taylor absolutely should’ve challenged, but how the fuck does the ref that’s directly in front of Chase not clearly see this? Like, what?

Well, that's a Bungles performance if I've ever seen one. Everyone already covered my thoughts above, so I'm not going to rehash every point. But the OL is tragically bad again even after we spent all that money in free agency, and I hope that is just the lack of live game action and needing time to gel. If they're really that bad, we might not make the playoffs. We also probably realize how important Higgins is to this offense, hopefully he is back next week.

I was at work during the game, but had the game on our small tv. Everyone was excited for me when they tied it up with 0s on the clock. I literally said "I expect the extra point to be blocked or something, I've seen this movie before". Later I knew that kicking with 15 seconds on the clock would matter, "Just gave them the 2 plays they need to win". Ask my co-workers if you don't believe me. 42 years of being a Bungles fan, you kinda know the story beats.

Haha well I know you're a lifelong Bengals fan like me because that was about verbatim what I said after we scored that TD. I told everyone to shut the heck up (candidly a more profane version of that) because we still need the extra point and that I fully expected a miss or block. Same on the missed chip shot. You just can't make this stuff up, the Bengals have found more innovative ways to lose or almost lose than any team in the history of the NFL. And that's legit almost every week they play.

That being said, I attribute about 0% of the blame to McPherson on both misses...the snaps were terrible (our 3rd string TE filling in for Clark Harris at LS) and the laces were in (also likely because of the bad snap). McPherson went from thinking he would have to run back and cover the ball because of the high snap, to then reorienting to kicking (which threw him way off his rhythm), and then when he arrives to the ball the hold was tilted and laces were in. People are so fast to blame the kicker on a miss like that, but those nuances were very important in both kicks. McPherson does not miss kicks like that if the snap and hold are remotely good. Everyone pray for Clark Harris' bicep because we just witnessed how important he is to this team, but apparently they have another guy to come in if Harris is hurt long-term. To McPherson's credit though, he takes full blame even though we all know damned well (or should) that it really wasn't on him.

I guess the best news is we played like absolute garbage and still almost won somehow. Bad news is that Pittsburgh is really bad on offense (but really good on defense) and we still found a way to lose at home, leaving us the only winless team in the AFC North, albeit I get that it is week 1. Bottom line is we know we have a great group of skilled position players and Burrow was just having an off game to start the season, but no preseason play for starters hurt us bad imo because we seemed so out of sync. Burrow is going to be fine and I hope that was just rust, but to be blunt he did cost us the game with the turnovers...some were not entirely his fault, but that pick 6 most certainly was and was pivotal early in the game.

But the real issue is the OL has to play much, much, much, much better than that if we want to be a contender again. Collins looked atrocious, Cappa and Karras were not as billed, and Jonah Williams was getting toasted almost every play...Volson I will give a break because he is a rookie that should have a year to develop but is being forced in because of the horrible decision to draft Jackson Carman. Cappa and Karras have enough of a track record in the NFL to believe they simply need more time together, but Collins had a rep for lazy play despite big talent and I don't really think Jonah Williams has proven much at this point of his career, and who knows on Volson. So I can't say I am really optimistic after that clown show from the OL, but am trying to reserve a modicum of hope that we just need more live reps to live up to not get Burrow killed and actually give Mixon a hole to run through.
