Cincinnati Bengals (official thread of False Hope 2015)

Generally agree with the sentiment that as a backup QB he gives you a better chance to win a game or 2 in spot duty than a lot of guys in the NFL might. Don't want him starting a significant number of games, but if we needed 1 win with our backup he seems more likely than a lot of others in the NFL to be able to pull that off.

.Don't get me wrong, I think it is a good pickup for us. Zero risk, high reward. I think McCarron gets the backup spot but there will be competition and I don't know what happens between Johnson and Pryor, but it will be fun to watch in the preseason.

What's in a Nickname? The Origins of All 32 NFL Team Names

Team owner, general manager, and head coach Paul Brown nicknamed Cincinnati’s AFL expansion franchise the Bengals in 1968 in honor of the football team nicknamed the Bengals that played in the city from 1937-1942. According to Brown, the nickname “would provide a link with past professional football in Cincinnati.” Brown chose Bengals over the fans’ most popular suggestion, Buckeyes.

Reading today that it's an MCL sprain, 4 - 6 weeks and they're hoping for the low end of that.

Also super excited to hear the reports on Geno seemingly getting back to full terror mode.

Yep, we need Geno back to his old self for our defense to be dominant again. And someone out of Hunt, Clarke, and/or Johnson will have to step up to help Gilberry and Dunlap. Really hoping we have Johnson back by the opener or shortly thereafter though, I think he's going to be a big piece of the defense.

Outside the DL, Burfict is the other big question mark...no idea how he will rehab and perform this year. And without a doubt, we need him to be healthy or we're in big trouble.

Let me preface this by saying the Giants are terrible...but: 1) Geno has his legs and is explosive...very excited to see it 2) Dalton was on the money...can someone tell him every game is the preseason/a regular season game against Jacksonville? Thanks. 3) Eifert will be a star if he stays healthy...big if but I think he will be dominant if he does stay healthy 4) Jeremy Hill might destroy some people. He looks really good and I think I was wrong.

PS: I had to wait over 24 hours to watch this pregame on delay. C'mon guys.

Leah Still is a champion with the way she's battled cancer. And the daughter of Bengals defensive tackle Devon Still was recognized for being just that by the sporting world's most famous cereal.

Wheaties sent the Still family a box featuring Leah, who battled cancer for over a year and has continued to see the disease in remission.

All of the proceeds are all going to her treatment right? I haven't seen that in any of the articles but I hope that is the case.

But any thoughts on Bengals as fantasy players? I love Green and I think Eifert is a complete steal in the later rounds. I am really bullish on Hill/Bernard though...one will do well each week but no idea who it will be.

That was at best a 4 - 12 team that played last night.

  • Offensive line got thoroughly dominated, despite a weak Tampa pass rush outside of McCoy
  • Andy Dalton... what is there to say at this point
  • Could not stop the run at all, despite decent penetration from the DL, their RBs snuck through constantly for 10+ yard gains when they should have been bottled up
  • Soft spots in the zone all night, getting methodically picked apart by a rookie QB. Also, Tampa's offense looked like hot garbage in their first preseason game, so that should make you feel better about it.
Not sure what could possibly change between now and the regular season.

I guess it's a good thing we don't measure how well a team would do based on their preseason performances. I stopped watching after the 1st quarter, and still think this team goes 8-8 at worst. That's an incredibly low number, but being a Bengals fan for 26 years, you tend to keep expectations low.

I personally thought Geno looked incredibly disruptive, Dre Kirkpatrick looks like he could have a great first season as the starting CB. Outside of that, I really don't know what to expect out of the defense. I will also say the offensive line looked like absolute shit. Like Va Tech 2014 bad.
