Cincinnati Bearcats (Juggalos official thread of Faygo)

Does anyone else get the "poor man's da U" vibe off of Cincy? University named for the city in which it resides, long-standing regional football program with little or no pre-modern national success, delusional non-alumni Internet fans, more media attention than deserved, mouthy attitude from players, overestimating their place in CFB, revolving door head coaches, attendance more appropriate to the MAC, and last but not least, coming to prominence by dominating the Big East?

It's sort of like everything you'd love to hate in the 'Canes, but in a low calorie, bite sized, conveniently located package. See you in 2012, kitties.

Its a 'cat thang, you wouldn't understand.

Tha U cut their teeth on the national level as an independent, they didn't join the BE until 1991. Cinci is a very, very, very poor man's version...if that. The U is a legitimate national program, even if they are down right now. They've been players for a quarter century. Cinci's been on the radar for two years.

eh... 23 years ago, Miami was only "on the scene" for 2 years too...

Before that they were garbage. Had been for a long time. I suppose if they can do it, so can Cinci
Yeah, but, Miami had/has a much more fertile recruiting base to mine from, not to mention a more attractive locale.

Not sure that was true in 1980 (recruiting base), though I'll give you the locale.

That was right as Bobbah was ramping up FSU and Florida wasn't yet what we have know them as for the past 20 years now.....

the SEC was essentially UGA and Bama with an every couple of year aberration with Auburn or Florida showing up.

One of the drooling morons that cover this sport (I think it was Mandel, but it could have been CFN) did an article a couple of years ago about the Kings and Dukes of college football.

The kings being the big programs like USC, Ohio State, Texas, Florida, Oklahoma, etc and the Dukes being teams like Wisconsin, Washington, Oregon, Oklahoma State I think was on that list....Anyway, UC and the assorted fUCkstick fans down there aren't going to be a duke anytime soon. They MIGHT be a squire or maybe a jester, but once Gilyard leaves and once Pike is gone, teams will be able to scheme for Collaros and then where will they be?

More candidate suggestions from Bearcat fans:

  • Mike Stoops
  • Gary Pinkel
  • Phil Fulmer
  • Bill Cowher

Somebody also jokingly suggested Chip Kelly so they could all keep their towels.
I'm not certain Fulmer is out of the realm of possibility. The others, of course, would just laugh uncontrollably.

Cincy football is like a bug who's buzzing along fat and happy because he just ate a smaller bug. Little does he know that he's flying above an interstate, and there's the huge windshield of an 18 wheeler barreling in on him at 70mph.

The name on the door of that 18 wheeler is The Economic Realities of Major College Football.
